This is a request to AW representatives.
I don't really know who to address, but here it goes... Hope some of the Alienware people will read this.

Is it possible for AW to write a patch to allow users to select black as an option for the alienhead? It would be nice if we could disable all light areas as this would make the M15x much more versatile in being used in work places.

If any of the Alienware reps can forward this to the appropriate people, it would be great.

    Cheers,
    M.

yes there is but not the head on the top or the touch controls. this is what they want to turn off.

That's exactly it shoelace. The head on the lid can't be switched off. The touchcontrols wouldn't be bad as well.

I'm sure it's dead easy to change the program. You just have to enable black being selected on those areas.

On the subject of colour changing i was wondering if it would be possible to choose any other colours other than what is pre-loaded. Kinda like you can choose a coloured border in windows but, you get the pallette to choose from or you can "blend" your own.

I know this is a long shot but...

Milcs, I don't own a m15x but from what I have heard there IS a way to turn off the head on the lid... Hopefully someone who knows how will pipe up in here... :S

    Good luck to you!

nope. wrong. Through the AlienFX software, you can turn off the light-pipe, the keyboard lighting, and the trackpad lighting. But you CANNOT turn off the quick-touch lights, the power button, or the Alienhead on the lid. The power button and quick-touch I'm fine with. But I think the Alienhead should be able to be turned off.

Thanks for clarifying that for me! I wasn't sure. :)

I think the reason those are not controlled like the others is because the software they made to change colors and turn the touchpad, keyboard, etc. on and off was made just for them.

Well I know this seems elementary, the lights that can't be turned off on the m15x are the same that are always on on the m9750... so I think AW simply wants some things to always be light.

It certainly doesn't bother me. :D I like those lights to be always on...

yeah, you're probably right- it's how it's always worked with AWs. Most people love the illuminated Alienhead, and in most contexts, I wouldn't mind it. But @ work, I need my computer to look more discrete and "professional".

I think you are the first person to think of that! wow thanks for the guru advice...

why did they change the skullcap? style changes! open there market a little to people who want something a little less crazy but want the power. I bet the m15x is prob there best selling model. if they fix alienFX to lowpro all the lights they will prob sell even more units.

    I know, I've read that.
Funny enough, they never reply to me. Maybe it's because as I'm an activist against their inaptitude and lies, they choose to ignore me! :)

Not to put to fine a point on it milcs (and please don't take this the wrong way) but you do moan a hell of a lot on this forum about all the problems you've had :( . I would complain as well if I were in your position, but i can't help thinking you might have more luck with AW if you toned it down slightly.

One thing I’m not sure on is are you keeping your m15x if it gets repaired? Recently I can't quite work out whether you'd just prefer to be rid of the thing

I do moan a lot... but not so much for me but for all the sh** I have wittnessed from AW. I just want the right thing to be done and I will always stick by the costumers side if they got the reason. And here it's simply put, a case of complete reckleness on AW's side and they have to acknowledge it and take responsability. When that happens and ALL the costumers get what's theirs for right, then I will be happy and stop. I really don't get how anyone can be indiferent when they read all the things that M15x owners have reported...

Regarding my laptop... I don't know yet. I'll see when I receive it. I'm hopeful... even though I "moan" a lot. :) More... I didn't have that many problems. I really just feel angry for everyone else. It's my latin blood... :)
I'm going to try and refrain a bit... ;)

That's how I feel too milcs. I don't have a real problem with my m15x; however, many do. I am also tired of Alienware's boring messages...You know what are they going to respond word by word before they do. Didn't they say they are working on the CPU downclocking weeks ago? Did they do anything about it? I might have missed something...

Silly me. I didn't read ALL the threads about this issue before asking a basic question. I guess in the future I'll just keep my mouth shut since a) I don't have an m15x and b) Alienware provides an excellent user manual that details all the ins and outs of your system and how to use it. Pressing FN+F11 to turn off the Alien head on any OTHER Alienware system is well documented I'm sure -.-

i found a trick how to turn all lights except the power button off :D

    here you go:
    go to: C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center
    start: AlienwareAlienFXTester.exe
go through all the tests, after the last animation test only the power button is on

if you want to thank me, i'll give you my paypal account info LOL :D

PS: with some disassembly knowledge there should be no problem to write a tool whick uses the alienware DLLs to switch the light off

:) Well done. Great work. Will try it when I receive it back from repairs. I was sure it was easy. Hope AW can come up with an official patch for this. Cheers there Hemen.
