Can you order the top panel from dell? either black or silver?

Lets say for example I drop my laptop and the top panel cracks, can I get it replaced? I need a spare.

Interesting, I'd be down to buy a silver panel set so I can switch it up every now and then . It'd be a pain in the arse though I imagine.

 

You have to take it apart completely remove the motherboard etc basically rebuildthe whole thing and I would advise against it

 

I would want just the black chassis to show mandrake what it would look like with the red lid.

Actually, depending on how it looks/good of a job they did, you can ask fastlappy to have his buddy anodize it green.

Well im anxiously awaiting his results thats for sure. Otherside to this though is warranty but i guess since they do all in home stuff its not of an issue unless you needed a system replacement or something of that nature.

 

If anything the tech would be drooling the whole time he's working on the system. lol

I would love to see just a red, green or blue lid. I would still prefer a black bottom.

i've done some painting and looking at the M17x, just painting the lid and clear coating it would be easy as pie. when i get bored of looking at my black lid, i'll paint it or just airbrush something on it. my buddy and i airbrushed a PC tower with spiderman 3 theme. it took only 3 hours. after that, it's just waiting for it to dry and being able to handle the smell of fresh paint and clear coat for a few days.

 

Yea it costs quite a bit I looked into it because I want it ano'ed,if it's case aluminum, we have to bead blast to anodize. those are around $75, then another 75 minimum for the colour you want anodized, if you want acid wash its 25 dollars more and laser engraving will be around 50-150 dollars extra.

 

also sleey instead of buying to prove your point you could always just photoshop it, I would do it but im not good at photoshop.

They seem to scratch super easy according to Moo. He has a couple scratches along the edges etc .

That why in the end silver is the best option because silver showing thru silver is a non issue .

Yeah thats about the best you can do . Get a sleeve plus a bag if you have to tote it around so it doesnt get caught on zippers etc.

People like Moo take his everywhere so its bound to get scratched at somepoint even if purely accidental.

I dont move my machines around that much so im not to worried either way . The black is super sexy though and i would have a hard time taking another color since everything gos well with black.

 

Zipper in my bag rubbed in it I can scratch it off easy
