    Can't chat with support

    I lost my drivers cd and my OS reinstall disc that came with my system. I went on the dell site to chat with support and it said chat is not available with my product.

    Also is there a way to download the webcam software other than the driver disc?

    Get the Driver from the support website of the M17x R1 (Choose your laptop as m17x not m17xR2 and download the creative labs driver from there.

    Make sure the webcam is on fn+F9 before installing.

    I hope it works.

    On the back of your laptop there is a barcode with a call tag number. This call tag is used to find drivers online that are specific to your laptop and your operating system. You enter your call tag at the Dell support site. The drivers on disk are already obsolete but I would get a replacement copy of the operating system just in case. You may never need it but you may also need it for a corrupted windows file down the road.

    You can also find the Service Tag on your invoice as well.

    I typed the service tag in and click on chat. But it says chat is not available with my system. Am I only allowed to call tech support through Alienware?

    Just call the Dell Tech Support # for your area. If Chat is down, its the only back up way to contact support. You can also email support via support.dell.com. Click on the 'Contact Us' link on the main support page.

    dell does not currently offer chat tech support for their alienware systems, my last CS rep explained to me that they feel email and phone conversations are more personal and resolve issues faster.

    the only way to contact tech support is either by phone or email.
