    Hello everyone,

just a quick post on the inquiry of this issue. Anyone cared to try to connect our machine (17'') to an external display and game? I just got a 27'' asus today and by either using HDMI or VGA cable, I cannot even play CS Source on the display, the image all goes blurry and blinking. At first i was really disappointed, but then when I opened the lid and enter the game again, it does well. However, I am still demanding to save some life on my lappy's lcd, so I'm just asking if anyone has tried to solve this problem.

I did a quick search on google and found someone mentioned this problem on other laptops, and then i saw some replys saying some laptop can game with lid closed just fine... So idk if I'm doing settings wrong on my computer.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

yep, absolutely do nothing, cuz the other options are either sleep or shutdown, and if i set it that way, i wouldn't be able to game at all :p

;-) not a problem at all, im glad u wanted to help me!

and by now i just found out that if i choose to use only external display (not to extend desktop with both display nor to duplicate desktop on both), it runs fine...

Well sadly I'm still a perfectionist so I want to keep this thread open to see if anyone has successfuly solved this problem with desktop extended to both displays.

    Appreciation continues!

You shouldn't close the lid when the laptop is running in the first place. The heat from the laptop may mess up the screen.

So I guess I'll have to leave it open and just choose to display the desktop solely on the external screen?

Ya Part of the airflow of a laptop is the top of the laptop. Seeing what happen with some Alienware m15x classic. Part of the laptop would split due to heat Putting any heat on a LCD or LED would not be good. Even the Glass finish.

I can not wait to plug my laptop into my 42inch LG hd tv. We had a 32inch Lube tube untel yesterday. God even with out HD yet which I will get Tuseday. :p My family Wanted another 32 inch and I pointed out one small fact it would look smaller then the Tube tv but wider. $700 for a tv not bad :p

Just finished my lab report so my brain feels kinda numb. I believe that's why I didn't understand what you talking about? Do you mean the problem is due to ASUS display? I highly doubt so then. I would go to nVidia forum in the worst case. ;)

i find this weird, cuz i've played games more than a couple of times, on my samsung 46" lcd tv, and tried all options of display settings (lcd only, lcd+hdmi, hdmi only) on duplicate screen and extended desktop, and didn't have any problems at all even with the lid closed, but yeah i don't recommend doign so either...I usually just leave mine open about 4 inches or so and to my surprise, i didn't even lose any FPS during gaming with dual displays running. i had read somewhere on this forum before that doing so would reduce fps cuz the 260M had to output twice...guess not...
