I recently my M17x to a bluray drive. After installing it and reassebling everything I booted it up. Now I think it still boots but the screen is completely black or extremly very dim. I checked the connection multiple times, I don't know what else it could be. If anyone has any ideas, please.

it's gotta be the lcd cable. check that you put it right again.
-
Yeah try reseating the cable again and repeat till it works. Unless you damaged the inverter etc then I only suspect the cable is not properly seated.
-
-
It's either the connector or the inverter. Not many options there. The third option is that the whole mobo or the LCD is but that is unlikely.
-
I suppose if you werent properly grounded when doing this you could've damaged the motherboard but I agree with mfractal that it is unlikely.
What i'd try is pulling the battery, CMOS battery and disconnecting from AC press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ensure all power is drained and then leave the machine for 24 hours, after which plug the CMOS battery back, then main battery then plug in the AC adapter and try it again. -
I will try that as soon as I get home from work.

are you getting any blinking error lights with cap lock, scroll or number lock?
-
No, no lights at all on the mediabar.
I hear the fan and drive start when I press the power button. -
Do you have an external monitor to try to connect to. Also try to turn off
unplug and take battery out, then press power button for 20 sec and then put back to see if you get your touch panel back. -
Man I'm about to do this install myself in about 2 weeks or so, I hope this doesn't happen to me on my M17x-R2.

The fact your machine won't post may be a result of a drive the bios cannot detect or support. Try swapping the drive back to see if you get response again. I've experienced exactly what you describe and simply had to swap the new peripheral to fix it. My exact situation involved installation of a DVD-RW into an old Compal laptop. The machine wouldn't post with a Panasonic, but did with an LG.
If your machine does post with the old drive again, try a bios update to see if the drive support has improved. -
Oops thanks for the correction was typing on iPhone. Also if you want to reset. The bios you can unplug the coin battery also while your doing the other step.
-
I took out the battery and cell for over twenty four hours. The LCD is still extremely dim. I can very faintly see a box that is checking my system for problems. The blue line is active with the words 'attempting repairs.'
-
Okay, it started up and I connected my hdmi cable. It is working perfectly on my HDTV. Even the bluray drive I installed is playing flawlessly.
Just still can't really see on the laptops screen. -
It sounds very much like you have a hardware failure. Your backlight isn't working, but the screen is. I'm uncertain if the power to light the screen feeds through a secondary cable, but it typically does on CFL lighting. Said cable may be disconnected or poorly seated. There are other possibilities such as a failed backlighting system, but that's uncommon on LED displays. On CFL lighting, inverters and tubes do fail. I lost a tube on one myself once... cheap bulb but nearly impossible to replace without changing out the screen. Do you have warrantee?
-
Okay, I fixed it and am now typing this from my laptop instead of my iphone.
I took everything back apart and examined it all to the last detail. It turned out to be a small bent wire on the connector where the LCD plugs into the motherboard. I straightened it very carefully and plugged it back in. Booted up and screen looks perfect. Seems better then it used to be actually. But that might just be the relief talking. -
finally
congrats!
Can't see anything
