Well I guess it finally happened. I always thought my willingness to stand behind AW would be rock solid, but I just can't put up with them anymore. I've been more or less happy with my m9750, and the AW tech support agents I've spoken with have been pretty good (their parts shipping department on the other hand is terrible).

But with stunted BIOS options, 6 months late to the party with an 8800 SLi rig, not to mention taking m17x orders BEFORE they had any parts in stock (and now those parts have been delayed until about late June), I just had to say goodbye to AW as a company for good. I must say that the almost mythical "dream machine" status I've developed for AW since high school (when I could not afford one) has been crushed now that I can. When paying such vast sums of money, I would think logistics could be better.

Anyway, I've cancelled my m17x order and gone with a new, shiny Sager 9262 from Xotic PC (helped by Chaz's review). Holy crap, what a sweet company to do business with! I actually felt great giving them $3200 for a new machine. I only wish I had made this decision back in May when I ordered my m17x, as I could have had the patience for one of their sweet, sweet paint jobs. Alas, I've been cursed with NO patience, and now it's negative since I've lost a month of time waiting for the m17x. No paint job for me, but on the upside, I can use the money saved from canceling the m17x and going no-paint to buy a 64gig SSD as my primary hard drive.

So long AW forum, hello Sager/Clevo forum (I hope there is one).

What is the config on the 9262? I quickly check the Sager forum and didn't see it.

The Sager 9262 is a more powerful machine because it uses desktop processors and not mobile processors. It thus makes use of DDR2 800 and has a faster front side bus than the m17x. It also has dual 8800s in SLi and costs only about 3200-3500 fully decked out. According to Chaz's review, it is also very sturdy built. Downside is it's heavier and thicker.

You can see the specs here

Overall, it looks like a really sweet performer, and the benchmarks speak for themselves. Plus it's 30% cheaper, and you can use that money for better upgrades like custom paint jobs or SSD hard drives. Plus it will ship within 3 days since it's already out, and Sager has great driver support. Reseller ratings on Sager laptops say it all. Plus you get lifetime tech support.

No, I canceled because AW can't deliver on time, and with the Sager I get a more powerful machine for less money. That's a DO last time I checked.

i do think you made the right choose though 4 gig 800 ram, 3.0 cpu, dual sli 8800, all for the price i payed for this one in my sig. i do think when you ordered it you should have expected to wait awhile! i waited over a month.

I hear you. I was willing to wait too. But it's June 5th today, and it was estimated to ship on June 9. On the phone yesterday they told me not to hold my breath for a "late june, early july" ship date at the earliest.

My m9750 shipped with a bad fan (how can any company which claims to QA their products miss that?), it took 2 months to get the correct replacement shipped, and now screws are falling out of the laptop and cannot be screwed back in (the screw just turns and doesn't seem to catch the grooves in the chassis). Still, this is a much better experience than others have had with AW.

Just all around not a company I would like to do business with.

well its just my opinion.. but if you are buying something such heavy and think like the sager, then you should get a desktop, otherwise yes, the Sager has a better CPU,RAM but worse looks, BTW Trias10 stop flaming other companies, dont get me started about Sager's Many dead pixel systems.

the dude is talking about the system performance not about what happened to your system.

5KG is not that heavy considering its power.
And while most SLI rigs eat 500W or more, this one only needs 220W MAX.
Another plus for the 9262, besides the Desktop CPU is CS, which you'll find to be among the best.

thats true, that CPU is a killer really ( the E8200 i think) its 15% faster than the E6600. the CPU will never be the bottleneck here :D

Trias, why not a desktop? Cheaper, easier to upgrade and about equal portability. ;) That thing is a beast.

I wouldn't say I'm "flaming" AW. I'd say that overall, AW wasn't that bad. I'd still recommend AW systems like the m15x as having the ultimate in power given portability.

Still, I think the price you pay for something like the m17x or the m9750 should come with better QA.

No system is perfect. I'm sure there are just as many Sager horror stories as there are AW.

And I still want something semi-mobile, so I can go to a lan party here or there, or if I need to go overseas for work for 2 months. I would definitely NOT recommend a 9262 or a m17x for someone who plans to take it to class everyday.

if they are going to have the parts in by that timeframe, would they not just make it a montevina platform? kinda sucks that no one has an m17x yet even though they whent on sale so long ago.

No testers have their m17xs either; I was told that the initial batch of m17xs is going to customers, and we have to wait until that batch gets delivered before the review units get distributed.
