Just got a pair of 4850's and after hours of trying am under the impression somethings not quite right. Cannot get a single driver right back from 9.0 to install in any way at all. I once have had the device manager show 2 4850's but never again after that one time.
GPUZ shows that they are both there and windows 7 even at one point installed a basic early driver for them.
Decided to revert back to Vista 64bit but am having the exact same problem. No driver will install.
All I ever get now is device manager showing 2 x standard VGA adaptors and they both always have an exclamation mark on them. Any suggestions would be helpful.

wow, that is weird, have you tried calling tech support? I really want to see some benches right now
-
No not as yet due to the fact they wanted me to send them back lol

go to the OCZ DIY 17" Intel Crossfire Edition page in the OCZ site
Go to drivers, and get the m 98 VGA drivers, they should work with these cards, OCZ put these up when they were still expecting to get the cards from Flextronics
Let us know if these work better for you.
Here is link:

Thanks buddy I shall give it a go now and let you know shortly
-
It's been only 7 minutes since your last post but I can't wait to see what's up with these cards.
*waiting* -

I sort of figured the same thing....now it has been like 9 minutes, we need updates!
-
Lol its just finnished downloading. Nearly there lads
-
You are so damn lucky that you got them.
I still think they will (eventually) release them though, especially because they still offer the 4850s for new systems. -
If you are unsucessful, i could upload the 8.56 ones that came default with my 4850? They arent the best but to get your cards to work it may just work.
-
Well just tried the OCZ 8.55 ones and no joy. They install the Audio driver then say completed.

Dam. See if there is any link in the AW website for the newer cards?
Also try flashing to the most recent AW BIOS as this may be needed for compatibility. -
Are you sure you're Mobility Modding them? (Hey, I'm just making sure.
)
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The OCZ drivers are mobility drivers specifically.
-
Send the cards to me, I can test them for you
-
You may have to manually install them, see below.

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Wow.....maybe AW really did have a reason for not sending them out, they don't work yet haha
-
so did you try out the above?
-
-
Mobility modder doesnt support 4xxx series yet. For drivers either get the official Windows 7 ones or the AW ones. Modding wont work.
-
Couldnt he use a set from the MSI cards ?.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Here are the ATI Windows 7 64-bit drivers which already have mobility support (from ATI - NOT modded)
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx -
On my W90 those would only install the CCC and not the drivers themselves.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The ATI drivers? I posted link to the 9.7, but I got the 9.6 and they work fine on my whitebook (although it has 3870s)
OP: Have you tried the W90 drivers yet? -
Yes but i was speaking under Vista64 and they were the 9.6s at the time . I am assuming Marshall is running Vista ?.
I was going to suggest the W90 drivers but those are modded with the 4870s in mind so more then likely different Strings .
MSI drivers though should be identical i would think. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well if he IS running windows 7, ATI directly supports the mobility parts themselves.
-
.
-
Tried that one but still just get the message that the best driver is already installed. Also I did put the newest AW bios back on. Running out of ideas now I think.
-
Did you try the MSI 4850 driver ? . Go into there forums in the owners lounge for the GT725 i think is the name and there should be a link somewhere in there for the drivers .
-
thats interesting as one of the "excuses" an aw tech gave me was driver problems.
perhaps it wasnt an excuse? -
-
well it just made me wonder, perhaps the guys at AW were having problems with thier driver
they did mention to me the AW driver wasnt ready and they couldnt support any "alternative driver if we could even get it to work"
kinda makes me think they knew this was coming -
So basically right now we're just waiting for them to come up with a driver?
-
well its making more sense now then before
i mean they could have just been saying about drivers, but in light of this it kinda adds abit of wieght to it
plus is also might indicate these are not normal 4850's -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Did you try just running with one 4850 and proceeding from there before moving onto Xfire?
Can you take some pics of the cards front and back? -
there will be a driver out as soon mas the first system ships with 4850's
i have most of the catalyst in my m17 driver thread.....
also you proably will have to add the ID strings manually -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The OCZ m98 drivers should need NO modding as they had these specifically for these cards for when flex sent them to ocz do distribute. Unfortunately that just never happened.
-
lets all pray they are not like the Asus w90p
-
you mean where you can only use the Asus drivers
-
no where it takes 5 people and 1 month to mod the drivers to get them to work
WAIT can you get the 4850 BIOS off each card? if you can do that it would be GREAT
i would load them up in a BIOS editor and check out the cards -
sorry on a whim try the Asus w90p drivers ..... just curious if they used the same setup and it could explain why your having toruble
-
we know the cards are not identical, we dont know that it is possible to use anything other then the aw drivers that havent been released yet. as apparently marshall has tried them all
-
driver is a driver .... unless AW modified the VBIOS drivers should work ..
try going back to win 7 ... get that driver installed then try to install other drivers -
the way AW has been tinkering latley nothing would suprise me
-
Silly question but did you try the M17 4850 drivers from the Alienware website?
http://support.alienware.com/Suppor...rocessed.aspx?os=WV64&cat=2&manu=12&item=1221 -
they haven't been known to remake the VBIOS .....
They are pretty lazy when it comes to that kinda stuff ....

Hi there guys, just seen this after the late shift. As soon as my laptop arrives, I'll see what drivers are on it; I'd also be happy to get a BIOS copy using GPU-Z for you guys if you want to inspect it. I highly doubt these are massively BIOS tweaked; what COULD be causing issues with drivers is that all current release m4850s have been 512MB variants as far as I know; these new ones have 1GB, and may have a newer BIOS with a different ID string; hence the current mobility modder and drivers not picking them up.
Once we can check them out; we ought to be able to get this fixed; possibly even if for now we have to do manual driver installs; it's not like the CCC needs instant updating every month; and I don't like being at any manufacturers behest, beyond the card manufacturers. -
don't worry the forums have a few good driver editors
Cannot get 4850's to work in M17
