Hello, yesterday I ordered the M17x via phone and am very happy! However, I have run into a glitch of sorts. Even though I havent actually received the laptop yet, I wanted to access the my hive access on the alienware website. I dont have an alienware account # to register with. Only the usual dell customer number and purchase ID number. I emailed the agent that made the sale and asked her for the account#. This was her final email to me...

Ok…finally got some answers for you. Unfortunately without an Alienware Account number you will not be able to access the My Hive. However, you can receive the best technical support by Alienware by calling the Direct Alienware number for Technical Support. 866-287-6727. (They are more advanced than the Dell Technical Support for this system).

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

    Nicole

is there anyway that I can circumvent this? if not, do any of you think I should just cancel the order and call alienware back and make sure I re-place the order with an alienware agent so I can get an actual alienware account number? Thanks in advance!

I've been trying over a week now. Getting pretty much the same response from AW.
    Good luck.

Thanks, you too! This is kind of ridiculas. I mean if im going to drop some serious $$$ on this machine, I expect to have the same access to everything alienware users have access too.

First of all, you're not missing out on anything. Myhive is just where you download drivers for your system. Dell has the same thing, only better.

Secondly, it doesn't matter whether you buy it through Dell or through Alienware. They're the same company. You won't have an actual Alienware account number, unless you order an ALIENWARE only product, and even then, you'll just find the drivers for that product.

You're not an Alienware user. You're a Dell Alienware user.

People probably think myhive is a secret place that AW stores all their goodies.

I havent as of yet canceled the order. Thats why I came here to see what others had to say. I know dell now owns alienware. I was under the impression that they were still treating alienware as a sort of seperate entity. I was also under the impression (wrongly) that there was "exclusive stuff " in the my hive section. Again, this is why I came back here to be educated on this matter.

Well thats my thoughts. whats the big whoop?

Drivers are freely available from the manufacturer and many times a third party for the custom configurations. Then there IS forums like NBR that have helpful members to resolve the needs ands wants of users.

    Best Regards
    N

Well thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. Rather then start a new thread, id like to ask any of the knowledgeable folks here one more question about this system. I noticed while configuring this laptop that there were no options for wireless cards like intel 5300 3x3 for example. Dell makes these options availible with their lower priced laps. Why not this one? I know it comes with a card, although not sure what brand it is. Again, thanks!

    My Hive was overrated.

Edit: Don't know if this is what you meant but it has:
Lan Card : Internal 300Mbps Dual-Band a/g/n Wireless with MIMO Technology (Broadcom 802.11n)

Yeah thats what I meant, thanks! Dell offers a choice of cards with their other laptops. I was just curious as to why they werent offered for the m17x? One of the reasons I was interested in my hive was I wanted to know where I could download the AlienFX program should I need to reformat or some other unknown problem occours. I didnt buy the respawn dvd because I figured it would be useless when I made the upgrade to windows 7.

The wifi card shipped with the system is the 1510 Wireless card. Old card - been around for some time now in other Dell systems.

Here is your Dell Hive page ;)
