I have tried Basic versions of both and downloaded them from futuremark.com
3dmark06 installs fine and gives error that OpenAL32.dll missing (I make sure its there and installed)

3dmark vantage installs but says that 1280x1024 resolution is not supported by system for 1-2 times.. but it launchs somehow. First test gives me frame speed of 2-5 fps... thats not what I expect from my m15x ????

any idea whats going around ?

I think you should have the WUXGA screen for it to run properly. I know the free version of Vantage only supports the 1280x1024 unlike 3DMark06.

Yeah... I went into options page and it allowed me to run in 1440x900 mode.. but the performance is pathetic.

    the score: CPU 5031, GPU: 1085.. 3DMark Score: N/A

I am worried why so ???

Humm...I am not sure how much should the 8700m GT score in that test, but anyways I believe 1440x900 is a high resolution for that test. Not surprised if the card scored way lower than it should.

It's a 8700m GT, you shouldn't expect much better performances than that...
    It looks fine.
