Hi there.. I'm the owner of a 2008 Area-51 M9750 laptop.. I have Windows Vista. I wanted to try out alienguise, which I downloaded from the alienware website, but it doesnt seem to work for me.. the taskbar and windows all switch to the classic block-like grey windows theme.. how can I get it to work? The icons do change though.. but the rest doesnt!

    thanks in advance!

    Hi Shiftehh,

AlienGUISe uses a program called WindowBlinds ( http://www.wincustomize.com) for skinning the GUI. Unfortunatly, the version of WindowsBlinds used by AlienGUIse is not compatiable with Windows Vista (or Windows 7 for that matter. You might be able to install AlienGUIse and then a Windows Vista compatiable version of WindowBlinds, and then get it to work. However, WindowBlinds is not a free program (there is a demo though). Good luck!

    Hi Shiftehh,

I haven't used AlienGUIse since I switched Windows Vista (2006), so I don't know for sure if it would work. It really depends on how WindowBlinds handles converting a WindowsXP skin to Vista. The demo will work for 30 days, and then it will stop and give you a nag screen. After the 30 days, you will have to pay for it if you want to continue to use it. You could try the demo, and if it doesn't work, you aren't out anything. I purchased a Star Wars edition Aurora 7500, which came with a custom AlienGUIse theme, and when I upgraded to vista, I just took the wallpaper, and used that. I then used the Vista customization options and changed the GUI color to match as close as I could. It looked nice, but wasn't as "cool" as the original XP skin. Good luck!
