beyond the fact that your laptop will be slower, you can open the Command Center (saucer symbol) and then go into the power settings ("Fusion"), where you should see a "Stealth Mode" sign over the image of your laptop on the left. did i mention the gauge symbol should light up?

Does stealth mode use the onboard graphics? Sometimes I'm wondering whether I'm using my nvidia gpu or the onboard video because certain games are choppy at times.

stealth mode does not switch videocards it only downclocks your system
the binary gfx changes videocards or if you start up the laptop using the right mouse key instead of the powerbutton
you can check in device manager by display adapters what video card your using and check if your power plan is on high performance

Thanks for all the info. Through the device manager, it's now very easy to see which display adapter is being used.

I dont know if its another bad repair because if it is, im calling my lawyer and better business burough, but I tried restaring my computer several times, and when I goto the command center / Fusion its sais runing on stealth mode.. I tried pressing the stealth mode button to turn it off but its not doing anything. Even when I press the stealth mode button no lights get brighter or anything...If they tell me to send it in again im going to take this M15x and break it over there head.

p.s. for all you "new alienware owners" this is my 2nd repair
Anyone know what I should do?

    shaknbakenyc,

Before you go to the trouble of sending it in, try this:

    Remove the battery
Press and hold the power button for at least 20 seconds

This step forces the MultiMedia Board (where all the touch controls live) to reset itself back to default parameters.

Reinstall the battery and boot up your notebook.

Now uninstall the OSD utility... this is what allows Stealth Mode, Binary Graphics, etc. to work. It basically sends commands to the BIOS.

After uninstalling, reboot and download version 00020 from MyHive and reinstall it. You'll then be forced to reboot again.

Then test your Stealth Mode button. You have to hold your finger typically 3-5 seconds for that button to activate/deactivate. It and the CommandCenter buttons aren't very sensitive.

If this doesn't work you most likely have either an issue with the MultiMedia Board not sending the correct commands to the motherboard or a motherboard malfunction itself.

When I was dealing with my own motherboard issue, Roswell discovered that many Touch LED/MultiMedia Boards and motherboards appear to have manufacturing defects which aren't detected by the normal pre-shipping tests. They were working on having some adjustments made in the testing phase to prevent the bad parts from getting out of the factory. Since that was only a few weeks ago I doubt the procedural changes would be in place yet with all the reorganization they're doing.

    Hope this helps.

    - Denver

The only problem here is that shake has a long list of issues. All of which have been addressed here numerous times.

If you follow the trails you will see that shake has also a history of repeating posts over and over.

What normal users would do he doesn't and still wonders why it wont work.

So with that in mind it was a good reply but there is doubt if the OP will understand it.

He doesn't seem to be responding to any of our suggestions.

I'm not sure he's even interested in getting any help.

He has his own agenda on wasting other peoples time and resources instead his own.

This is just a warning for those who want to help and those who have.

I have a small question when you say

    Remove the battery
Press and hold the power button for at least 20 seconds

Does that mean without the AC plugged in as well, if yes then I did that and didnt notice anything..

As Denver mentioned that forces the MultiMedia Board (where all the touch controls live) to reset itself back to default parameters.

Also a good idea you want to make sure all stray voltage is discharged before opening up a laptop.

Are you holding down the Stealth button long enough?
