So my alienware m15x that i traded my macbook pro for is arriving this week. As far as being carefull goes im not sure what to do. It has no hinge cracks (YET!) but i want to take care not to cause any. Can i glue or tape anything to prevent it? maybe not close the lid?

if you got a good one which you probably did since you have no creaking just make sure you close the lid using 2 hands on either side of the monitor and it will be perfectly fine. congrats on the new laptop btw! you'll love it!

If you are using it as desktop replacement like I do, then you dont care if you close the lid, would you? I leave it always opened and covered with a thin cloth.

No creaking doesn't necessarily mean it won't break.

thanks for the replies! The thing is, it is only 2 months old, do you think alienware might have fixed this newer batch or is it still susceptible to damage? thanks in advance!

I think it wouldn't if there is a very little to no creak, because MOST, again I say MOST of the creaking happens because the loose screw holding the hinge which is later causing it to break. Just take out the rubber and tighten the screw and I believe you should be okay after that :) .

It is certainly possible, just not definite. Old users have reported creaking still but no hinge breaking. Rumors of a new batch have been out there and started from AW CS themselves, but no official comment on it. I'm hoping it's true though.
