I have been searching for a guide to replace the LCD panel on my M17xR2. My M17x came with the wrong screen and I opted to replace it myself(last tech I had messed up my SXPS)I have downloaded and printed the entire service manual for the laptop, but I thought there was a guide on here? been looking through Moo's posts but that was to a different laptop. Any idea?

PM witcher as he has done it before.

Or you can ask zfactor as well.

I know getting the actual panel out is a pain because it is sealed, but if you are getting a new screen from Dell it should come pre-assembled
so all you have to do is take off the current lcd/lid and put the new one on.

Don't forget to take out the camera in the old one! The new panel will likely not come with it.

They never include the back cover, just the front panel and E2E. You have to physically change the camera yourself.

Hmmmm...I was told that it would not be the entire panel just the screen itself. I wish it was just the entire panel as that would be easy as pie, I am comfortable taking it apart just never have done this before and the srvice manual doesn't completely cover it.

I am glad you are comfortable as I would not be. lol

Seriously, if you don't seal the E2E display properly you are going to drive yourself nuts with all the dust and crap that will get in there.

He doesn't have to remove the E2E. The back cover slides right off and then you can simply unscrew the LCD + camera.

changing the lcd panel is a pain in the assss. But, the panel come pre-assembled. You have to add the back cover on as well. I've received one without the microphone and camera, and I've received one with both already attached.

good luck. I can try to help you if you want, just pm me.

    Yes, I know that joker.

But he said he was getting the actual panel and not the entire unit sent to him.

If he gets the whole display assembly sent then that is easy-peasy.

    I think so too.

Dell doesn't even have the lcd panel itself because they are sealed at the factory in a clean room, I'm sure.
