Changing colors a big deal?

Lets say I get an m17x in one color. Is it possible to switch to another by exchanging the shell? Is this something Dell would be willing to do on a refurb unit?

They don't come in that many colors in the outlet, nor are too many available for purchase.

 

Black and silver, take your pick. Got the extra cash shell out for the red.

That being said, $75 or so, maybe less, will get you both chassis parts new so you can do the swap yourself.

 

Are you saying Dell will sell the outer shell for $75? I thought it would be a lot more than that, that's not bad if that's the case.

 

Dell? God no, they'd want more, I've seen the OEM parts on eBay among other sites, the lit is only $30 and the chassis only $50... Brand new, sealed in plastic. Get parts off eBay all the time, Dell wants waaay to much.

They charged me $20 for those tiny rubber knobs they put on the corners of LCD's on my old Inspiron. Meanwhile, you can get the identical thing in a department store for less ($3?), and have a pick of color.

 

yeah i bought my parts from parts-people.com, it was like $50 for the lid and it was flawless.

I just bought the Nebula Red pair for my M17x from them. I cannot wait!

 

To be honest I want to get rid of my red casing for the black.

 

I love the looks of the red case. Mine was a warrenty replacement so they would not let me change the color so this was my only option. Plus, if the red starts to annoy me, at least I can change back....

 

Hey inap, did you just paint your original bottom chassis or did you find another one and where did you get it? Does anybody know if painting your own case voids the warranty at all?

 

the bottom part i got off rensey when he was parting out one of his laptops, so i have a complete extra set.

check yours i included most details, this is a bottom chassis with touchpad, dvd burner, dell wifi and keyboard and everything included. all thats missing is the battery, HDDs, GFX cards, memory and bleutooth.

 

Can anyone tell me what the differance between Grade A and Grade B are? the differance in price is $15. So what is the differance? I'm thinking silver for my system now.

Also, I had the M17x R1, and don't remember any diferances. Assuming I get the M17x Lid, It will fit correct? I ask because it's not in the "M17x R2 Parts" section. Thanks

 

grade A is flawless, grade B could have some minor scratches on it.

i can only speak for myself but i got a grade A lid for my M15x and it looked brand new. and those guys shipped pretty fast too. order in the morning and got shipping confirmation the same day.

 

If you're looking for a bottom chassis hit the3vilGenius up, the chassis he has is the m17x and it even comes with the cable you need DR650SE!

 

Nice! I just might. First I'm going to try Dell (when I get home in 1.5 weeks ) and see what they decide. Mostly because I have to get a GPU replaced and keyboard led connection is bad, not to mention dead onboard speakers. I'm thinking all that might warrant an entire replacement. But if not, i'll be hitting him up for it. Bookmarking!

Why don't you just paint the chassis to match whatever shade of silver you want DR650?

 

I just installed my Nebula Red case and LED cover. I love it! Was not too difficult either but my speakers are not working. Must have forgotten to connect a lead somewhere because the headphones work fine. Not too big a deal to open it up and look around though... i just dont want to do it tonight.

P.S. Now I have to change my sig!
