so i was wondering, can you upgrade/change an i3-330m to i7 for alienware m15x? i was still low in budget when i ordered it bc im going on vacation and i want it to be with me when i travel but was thinking of just replacing it later. is that possible?

Well, according to the service manual here, the CPU can be removed. The i3-330M comes in both PGA (pin grid array - replaceable) and BGA (ball grid array - soldered, unreplaceable) form but as all the quad core Core i7 CPU's only come in PGA form, it's highly unlikely AW would change the board setup to allow BGA CPU's when they can just use PGA for all the CPU's they offer.

I'm sure a M15x owner will confirm for sure, but I'd put money on it that it's possible. :)
