    Hey Chaz (or anyone here in notebook reviews who is lucky enough to review the new notebooks that gets reelased)

    I'm going to purchase ym system later today or early in the morning tomorrow and I just wanted to compare the M15x to the Dell 1530. I seen many videos and pictures on the M15x and sometimes it looks nice and slick not so bulky, and sometimes it looks really bulky and HUGE for a notebook. I think its because the bottom aprt of the ssytem is black so it kind of trick the senses because from a distance you only see the silver part of the computer making it look smaller.

    Well Chaz I was wondering if you could take pictures of the M15x besides the dell M1530. I myself have a dell 1530 and would have a greater idea on the difference in size of the two systems. I get confused because on the tech specs for the M15x, it says its height is 1.30” and in the dell webpage, it shows my dell 1530 height as 1.38" from the back where its the thickest and at 0.93" in the front because of the design, the notebook gets thinner and it moes towards the front of the notebook.

    So I'm guessing that the m15x height at its max is 1.30' as listed on the tech specs, so this would mean it would make it about the same height or thinner than the dell 1530 from the back as the thickest part of the dell? The dell really looks thin tho even from the back so I dunno how accurate the tech specs are. The M15x weight just roughly about 1 pound heavier than the 1530 so I could possibly be.

    If you could Chaz post pictures with the 1530 and m15x for comparison, would greatly appreciate it. I saw you post reviews on this site so im assuming your the guy also who posted the reviews on the dell 1530. Or are the people doing reviews on this site totally different people far away from each other?

    Thanks

    I'll answer for Chaz as I know he no longer has the m15x, it was a review unit that was shipped back to Alienware a couple of weeks ago. Nor does he have an XPS M1530. I know he would help if he could though ;)

    It would be nice if the laptop pictures in all reviews were 'standardized' (i.e. always from a certain distance + angle), so readers would be able to compare the laptop sizes based on the pictures.

    As Andrew noted, the m15x is no longer in my possession, I sent it back two days after the review was posted. :(

    I can tell you out of personal experience that the m15x is barely larger than a typical 15.4" notebook. I have always had 15"/15.4" notebooks so take it from me.

    Note that the height of the m15x, 1.3", is a bit misleading because it does not include the rubber feet. With them it is probably about 1.6" or 1.7". Without a doubt, the M1530 is thinner but it is also much less powerful. The 8600GT does not even begin to compare with the 8800GTX. I don't consider them comparable notebooks.

    I have both systems - I will post a couple of shots either tonight or tomorrow AM. I have decided to keep the m15x and return the 1530.

    Thanks Nyceis, please post the pics.

    Thanks Chaz and Andrew for the quick response, I feel comfortable now buying it. Also I measured my dell 1530 and they too measured it without the legs, so the measurements are prolly accurate. The backside of the 1530 is about the same thickness as the backside on the M15x, only difference is M15x doesnt get thinner as it moves to the front of the system. Still awesome and still portable in my eyes

    btw nyceis I emailed alienware-steve because I was worried about the high temp you and other people that experianed. He said he be contacting u and the other names i gave him, so check your forum inbox. Hope my system dont get a temp of 102-104 degrees

    firstn20- You meant F deg then its easly hittable 100+ deg that is. True for any notebook. The CPU and GPU when working will be WAY higher than that. Hech, the 8800GTX hits 88deg C is well into 170+deg F.

    The 15x is not bulky in my opp. I take it with me to starbucks every morning to do school work and use it on the sofa while watching my daughter. Very much portable if thats where your getting at. Its no 12 or 13 incher or umpc but for its power this thing makes up on all aspects.

    In this thread, there are pics of the m15x compared to a Dell E1705 and an E1505. Not sure what the difference in dimensions are for the E1505 and the m1530, but I hope it gives you an idea.

    Edit: Here's the dimensions for the E1505 and the M1530.

    E1505 = 14 x 10.45 x 1.42 inches

    M1530 = 14.1 x 10.3 x 1.2 inches

    It is definitely noticeably heavier than the 1530, but not too bad;

    I find the m15x still surprisingly easy to pickup and carry around.

    I've been carrying around a 17" which is just too big for my tastes.

    I decided to return the 1530 and stick with the m15x. My 1530 had a dead pixel and I much prefer the touchpad on the m15x over the 1530 and the ability to swap the DVD drive for an extended battery is fantastic for me.

    (Not to mention the 8800 :D)

    I can try. I've only got a bathroom scale and a postage scale that goes to 5 lbs, so I'm not sure how accurate I can do it.

    Yes, it is the 1440x900 - It's an LG screen and it is *fantastic*

    Dell is the 1440x900 LG as well. For some reason, the AW LG does look a little nicer to my eyes than the Dell, but its pretty subjective.
