(eyes looking at kaltmond ;) ) lol... i did hear you were good at finding some cheap ones...

I think $400 is the cheapest you can get...

BTW... maybe I'm just too paranoiac but i can't trust those QS from china :x

aight guys... im really gonna go for this... also is it worth the $300 upgrade to GTX 280m sli from gtx 260 sli?
    My config will be:
QX9300 (Overclock with bios and setfsb...)
    4GB 1333MHZ RAM
GTX 260M SLI or GTX 280M SLI
DVD Burner (I'll upgrade myself if I need to)

also, I gotta say i am totally digging the design in this notebook... truely awesome... also moo im willing to help you with whatever you need (as long as its safe but i will overclock, benchmarks... you name it) if i get this...

    1333MHZ ram is pointless.

TBH we can't say if it worth ATM because we don't have comparison benchmarking now but at least FOR ME doesn't looks to worth.

if you want the best performance and you can afford it then get it. but know that it is only a 5-10 performance MAX increasement which isn't worth it.(i would still get the 280m but that's me lol)

yea lol i want the 280's as well... i may do that but will rjtech sell me the mxm 3.0's? then id definately go with 1 gtx 260m and get rjtech if its a better deal... i doubt the gtx 280m sli can really cost $300 more than gtx 260m sli... btw, check your mail don ;)
Also about the Chinese ebay seller he has been on ebay since sept. 1/08 and has 100% positive rating with a 113 score... I'm gonna trust him with his stats... Man i still like that QX9200 though...

i found out from the dell sales rep last week that my machine is being assembled in china. i'm not going to pass judgement just yet.

she said they moved 'assembly' from malaysia to china coz of the dell takeover (of operations)...dunno if that's for all asia-pac countries or globally. don't quote me on this :p

sadly a quad core with a 12 mb cache @3.06-4.0 ghz is the highest you can go :( ..(sarcasim) considering 50% of laptops are still running 2-3 year old CPU's your fine for a while

related to this...it was mentioned in another thread that OCing would seriously shorten the lifespan of the CPU. i know that's a risk anyway but to what extent? if i run the QX9300 at 2.93 GHz (as Languid has stably managed so far), what's the expected lifespan if...
    • only OCed while gaming
    • OCed all permanently

i personally can't give u a guess but people here have OC'd their systems and they have lasted a very long time ;)

I only OC when encodeing or Gaming(if i need it)

no point to OC when you don't need to

Overcocking with stock vcore isn't going to kill your cpu don't worry :p

And if u consider that processors on M17x are UNDERvolted...

if a cpu is overclocked without changing the voltage will that actually effect the lifespan of a cpu?

I have had a few desktop cpus i have oc'd and they run for years that way as i have never overvolted them

Maybe a little but anyway... From 10 years to 9.5 isn't a big deal lol.

Overvolting with care isn't going to kill your cpu too so don't worry about lifespan :p

ok. if all goes well, should have my rig next week. will try OCing then. may try to overvolt to push it to 3.2 GHz, preferably through software so that i don't have to reboot everytime and only while gaming, if required.

question: while finding out my system limits...increments should be in 0.1 volt steps? with what test to make sure each increment works okay? or wait for instant bsod? (thought it was REDsod with vista).

You can't overclock it via software since we don't have SetFSB right now so don't expect 3.2 NOW ;)

Overclocking in M17x still needs to be worked, you can't expect to receive your system and simply push it to 3.2.

Just know that they are ES samples (doesn't usually matter as processor's rarely go bad) that do not carry any warranty what-so-ever.

None of the CPUs bought off ebay will ever have a warranty according to Intel. If you don't buy it in a retail box from a authorized reseller it's not going to be covered. Procs like the x9100 and the qx9300 are OEM only and will only be covered by the manufacture who sold you the computer....I did research on this before buying the x9100.

The warranty coverage is usually worth it to get it through Dell. However if your trying to keep it under a certain price point (or keep switching like me) then I understand.
