Okay so when I first used my new m17x r2 the webcam worked really well. When in the youcam program the webcam was as smooth as the screen on a decent digital camera, there was no choppiness, my actions were quickly updated on the screen, etc. In the alien sense on the login screen it was really choppy but I figure that's because of the calculations being done to monitor faces?

Anyway, I reformatted, installed drivers, installed cc and osd, and installed youcam. Now the alien sense is about the same amount of choppiness but in youcam the video is really choppy... not as choppy as alien sense but pretty bad; my movements blur across the video and its just not as good as it was before... Has this happened to anyone else? I've tried uninstalling the driver and letting w7 reinstall it after restarting, didn't help.

The other thing that I just noticed is that when youcam first starts up the video seems pretty smooth for a few seconds, then as it starts to adjust the contrast it gets choppy. I don't know if the contrast adjustment has to do with it (it worked fine before) but it definitely seems smooth for a few seconds.

Could it be the lighting in your room?

Well i just turned off auto white balance in the webcam settings and its still choppy so I don't think so. I'm gonna get another webcam program because I think it might just be YouCam causing the problem.

Nope, I just installed ManyCam and it seems to be just as choppy. Man, I swear this was the smoothest webcam I've ever used before the reformat, I really hope I can get it working right again.

Alright this is seriously bumming me out... Could someone with an m17x r2 whose webcam is working nice and smoothly upload their webcam driver?

I meant the ambient lighting in your room.

Are you using it during nighttime with artificial lights? because cameras tend to run choppier without proper lighting. Works best with natural sunlight

    just a thought anyway..

Well, it was sunny out earlier and that's the only real difference afaik. But it just seems odd how huge of a difference this is. Anyway, I'll try it tomorrow and see if the sunlight really is what made the webcam so awesome before.

EDIT: you know I think you're definitely right. If I get really close to the LED display so my face is lit up mostly by it the webcam gets nice and smooth, but when I sit back and let myself be lit mostly by the CFLs/incandescents in my house it gets choppy. Plus the more lights I turn off the choppier it gets. I guess ill just have to use the webcam mostly during the day
