Hello, I have been trolling the forums here trying to get an accurate assesment of the M17X, users opinions, out of box issues, resolutions, and most importantly Alienware's response to complaints. I am the founder and leader of a large, multi-national, multi-game gaming clan, and take care of all of the web design, databases, servers, coding, etc, and I do try and sneak in a few games here and there. :) Currently have a personal HP (can't game) and use it for everything except gaming and knew that when purchasing it. Had originally narrowed the "new" choice between Sager and a AW M17X.

Because I run 2 servers locally, and do have to contend with the power company and their constantly increasing rates, I am curious as to how easy (or hard) switching between the onboard, and SLI graphics is. Reboot required ?? Quick switch ??

With that said, I would like to post a simple poll, for ALL M17X owners. Rather than delve back into what's great, not great, etc, just a simple, "Would you buy it again / recommend it having owned it, used it, and dealt with whatever issues (or not) out of the box, including contacting AW if applicable.

The Sager has been pushed back again (possibly a good thing, maybe to get it right instead of first ??) not sure, but for better or worse, the AW seems to fit the bill quite nicely, including being able to kill the SLI if needed for hours of coding, etc.

Any votes, and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The laptop itself is nice, I hate dell support with a passion though.

Hehe, now THAT I understand. Same (hopefully not all the time) isues with HP. Have a battery going bad after less than one year. Took a net total of 8 emails with repeat requests from HP for different information, repeat information, and finally a phone call, to finally have them tell me the battery was out of warranty. Complete waste of my time, and the scary thing is, that was for a SIMPLE problem. Battery light flashing (i.e. not charging), failed HP's battery test, and had a warranty ID, which started the multi-day campaign of my time wasted. Very irritated at the end, because if it is THAT hard to get something handled that is simple, God help you for anything more complex.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

Very satisfied with it, although it's expensive. But then again, true quality comes at a price...

My first unit was a bit of a dud, but AW/Dell has taken the lead in accepting my return. The SRS department was a pain, and I am still waiting for my UPS return slip via e-mail, but all in all I have been well taken care of.

Even with the problems my unit has, it is a solid performer and a sturdy beast. Aside from the AW look, this is one machine that feels professional in build.

Being a newer (posting) member, I appreciate all of the votes, and feedback, as I always prefer to get REAL feedback from users, not "paid" reviews/reviewers, press releases, etc. We shall soon see what AW has in store for me. Will take some time to review it, and post back, for anyone else, who might be in the same position I was, prior to making the decision.
