After almost two months with a non-functional M7950, due to getting the wrong graphics card while trying to upgrade to SLI I find out from Loggie, that the 9750GTX paret and daughter cards are the same.

Is this true? The A.W. tech support agent I spoke with while trying to get SLI up and running told me one has to be parent and one has to be daughter in order to work. He said that's why we couldn't get it to post.

The card already in my puter had a "D" on it and so did the second card.

If this is true it only adds to the lack of knowlege on A.W.s part.

Still no word from A.W. regarding the status of the card refund or the return of my heat pipe.

I think the first one must be a daughter.

I had an issue with Vista and SLI when I first received my m9750 a year ago. I had installed the AW Vista driver from My Hive which was supposed to recognize SLI but it didn't so I called AW support. The tech there wanted me to swap the 7950gtx cards to verify that the problem was not hardware related. As it turned out, I ignored his advice and got a second opinion which confirmed that it was a Vista issue and not the hardware.

Hardware wise the cards are identical. I can only speculate as to why there might be differences between the two cards other than the P and D stickers. I suppose there might be a firmware difference on the card itself that configures the card to act as a daughter, but other than that I have no idea why AW would claim that the cards are different.

I appreciate the info Loggie. And thanks Armando, it would be nice to have a working laptop again.

The parent and daughter cards have two different bios and work in tandem for SLI. While either card will work in a single installation you can't have two of the same for SLI or it won't work.
