I wipe my M15x down daily and keep it in the dust sleeve if it sits for a few hours but its starting to accumulate smudges and they key board is feeling a little cruddy. How do you guys clean the lid of your M15x, I'm weary of ruining the finish. Also do you think it would be safe to clean the keyboard and palmrest with some rubbing alcohol? Thats how I clean my desktop keyboard.

I also use alcohol (Dynex brand) to clean my keyboard but I don't know if it's ok :p But I know we don't use alcohol with screen.

I also use compress air can to clean dust accumulates in cooling vents and under the keyboard.

Other places can be safely clean with a soft cloth.

Yeah I use LCD cleaning solution for the screen I'm more interested to know what kind of cleaning solution I can use on the lid of my M15x because it has a painted finish, scrubbing with a microfiber cloth isn't getting some of the smudges off the lid anymore. I need to clean my keyboard asap, I'm going to try some alcohol I'm just hoping it doesn't discolor the palmrest or keys

I doubt the palm rest can be discolored. They are plastic after all.

And I don't know why you have trouble with the lid. It's the easiest part to clean for me. Clean it with a cloth just like you clean the hood of your car. Or M17x is different from M15x at that part?

@ Terminal: now you are changing avatar every hour huh ;)

Yes its a completely different finish the M17x is adonized aluminum the M15x is magnesium with a painted gloss finish like a car. It's the paint im scared of taking the top finish off and the surface becomming pitted down the road.

Keyboard: cover with silicon keyboard protector. These are popular with Macbooks. It feels different though, but u will get used to it - eventually

As for the metal case, ask the nearest "car detailing" shop. They have a horde of "paint friendly" cleaners.

For one thing, DO NOT USE petrol based cleaners and rubbing compounds.

    Turtle Wax anyone?

I personally am using silicon keyboard protector and was about to use adhesive clear plastic book cover to cover the top lid when the A03 bricked it.

The screen is best cleaned with a microfibre cloth (like the ones used to clean eye glasses). I honestly wouldn't use any chemical solvents (alcohol or otherwise) on any exterior part of a notebook. Only place I safely use alcohol is to clean the CPU/GPU and sinks. Use a soft cloth to clean the lid and palmrest, or a mildly damp cloth for any tough smudges.

I clean my screen with ionized water (which is basically any lcd screen cleaner) along with a microfiber cloth and it works like a charm. As for the keyboard, I've found the best way to keep it clean is never eat anywhere near it, and wash your hands before you use it. I've had it now for a few months and it still looks brand new.

Thanks for some of the suggestions... This might come in handy when I go buy an M15X or M11X in the future...

I wonder if a typical household mirror cleaning product would ruin the exterior finish or the palmrest/keyboard/trackpad?

Yeah I went and picked out a microfiber today and just used a little warm water. This worked well to clean the lid compared to my lens wipe I was using. I wiped the keyboard down with a warm damp cloth and it feels a little better but not perfect. I still might try to find something that gets oils off a little better for the keys, they arent dirty but they dont feel new anymore.

I suggest you do the clean more often. It's hard to clean if you leave the dust or oil there for too long.

No but if you have hard water the minerals could stain it over time I guess. I could stand to clean my machine more but either way water doesnt clean oil off anything oil isnt water soluble.
