Since yesterday, the Command Center download was unavailable under the drivers for my service tag. I had a feeling an update was in progress and I was right, just released:

    Command Center 3.6.4.0 Released:

Download for both Windows 7 FTW and Windows 8.1: Product Support | Dell US

WARNING: After downloading it, do not choose to extract the folder, instead, simply choose install.

If you choose to extract, it won't fully extract and would just give you 2 files. Seems like the lousy Drivers team didn't do their job properly.

I usually extract all the EXE to folders for faster installation but nevermind that......

    EDIT:

You need to click on VIEW DETAILS on the right of Command Center 3.6 for Notebooks

Then download the Hard Drive version:

    App_NB_AWCC3.6.4.0_W81_W7_Setup_9T1FG_ZPE.exe

Can I use it for a M18X-R2? Or just for new 18's model?

    Thank you :D

I only have an Alienware 18.

Create a system image using Macrium Reflect or whatever system image software you may be using in case it doesn't work so you can easily revert back to the previous state

Next, uninstall the current Command Center and reboot

Then install the new Command Center and reboot

then please let us know if it works properly or not

Hi I have downloaded latest Alienware Command Center and tried to install it, but get an error message. I uninstalled the old and reboot the laptop. Started exe file but got an error message. I reinstalled the old version without any nonsense. What is Dell doing? There was another in another forum that tried and install the new version of Command center on his Alienware desktop with the same error message. Also he had not problems and install back the old version. Skjermbilde (550).png

Here is what I discovered, sometime when I try to install it, it would fail. For some mysterious reason, delete that file, download a fresh new copy, and it would work!! Crappy DELL drivers as usual.....

Once you install it, delete the installer, why? because it won't work the next time you need to install it if you format! don't ask how or why! that's how buggy DELL's drivers are

I figured it out!! If you simply click download, it would download the update package!

I have always VIEW DETAILS and installed from there (same time checking bug fixes in the version). But this time I used the main download, but it was a mistake. I deleted the old installation file that I downloaded, downloaded a new and did as I used to, then it worked. You're absolutely right that this is clumsy from Dell. I experienced similar with Bios downloads from Dell, this is completely hopeless. There are certainly some who call Dell support and get help, so this should be unnecessary. Dell just makes more work for technicians in telephone support and it costs money. Waste of money when they in principle could have done a better job the first time .. Tragic :D

I'd recommend not trying it. It is not intended for the M18xR2. There is a chance it could work, but if it contains a firmware update of any kind it could totally ruin your AlienFX controller. Remember, best practice is "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" and a new version of AWCC won't make your R2 go any faster.

True, it will not affect performance, and to be honest, I didn't notice one bit of a difference between this one and the previous one.

It's really unfortunate that Alienware doesn't provide comprehensive release notes for the firmware and software updates. With firmware, taking it on faith that they know what is best for all customers is really dangerous. What they want might not be what we want.

But, flashing that AWCC for an Alienware 18 to an M18xR2 could have catastrophic consequences.

It is in any case risk sport and flash to newer versions of bios. One never knows what Dell might do. All bios versions except Alienware 17 System BIOS A07 and A10 (manually control the fans and increase power settings for GPU) is just garbage of 14 versions. :D

    Hi Guys,

Looks like we have an update for the command centre taking us from 3.5 to 3.6 I noticed comman centre 4.0 only works for Alienware 13.

No major changes that I can see, however it's added a tempo bar to colour scheme. It also does not need to upgrade the AlienFX firmware on the keyboard, it stays on 2.03.00

I installed the update, but now AlienFX gives me this error whenever I open it: "The value for column 'VID' in table 'Devices' is DBNull."
Lights and profiles seem to work anyway, but any of you guys know what it might mean?

I truly cannot find any functional difference after updating the software.
At least it still works, I can't think of anything worse than stuff that wasn't broke until an update came along.

One thing I noticed is that there's a tempo bar setting now on the AlienFX settings.
