Dear NotebookReview.com and specifically Alienware Thread Users,

With any product I purchase I try and find a website that has a forum where people solve problems together and provide advice and of course constructive criticism. I belong to many sites such as the 300mclub, allpar.com, cardomain.com, hardcoresledder.com, snowest.com, the 300m page at dodgeintrepid.net, and many more! I can Honestly say without a doubt that I have never met a more proactive, knowledgeable, helpful, and polite group of forum goers in my life. The content you all provide is honest, well documented, and revealing. Having this sort of interaction between users of systems is as crucial to the people owning these systems as it is to those who are about to purchase them. I have just begun to scratch the surface of this site's content and I must say that from what I have observed so far, I am quite impressed. I cannot begin to thank you all enough for the contributions you have all made. Keep up the great work! There is one more m15x future owner (it's in phase 6 of production) that feels comfortable and invited to contribute here as well! Again, thank you for everything, and may this site be an example for all others to follow in the future!

    Sincerely,
    Alex Petersen

FirecatF7, I just wanted to welcome you to the Alienware Forum and hope that you have a problem free M15X.

I own a M17x and have had no problems so far!!!

I do have one piece of advice, based upon other members reviews the M15X can get rather hot when gaming, even more so with the 9800 inside. My advice is that you purchase the Zalman nc1000 cooler or similar to minimise any heat related issues you might have.

I'm not trying to scare you or put you off in anyway. Just trying to be helpful (",)

The only bad thinkg about the M15X seems to be it's cooling, presumably because it had loads of high tech and heat producing gear inside a small case...

It's a great machine and able to play Crysis on pretty good resolutions. I'd have got one but, wanted the bigger 17" screen.

    Anyway, enjoy your new baby.

    OB

P.S. Feel free to read the guides in my signature (",)

Thanks Everyone! Oodle-Bear I am currently scouring the depths of the internet looking for just the right cooler :) Do you think the Zalman NC1000 is by far the best model? Thanks again!

Look at the Care & Maintenance Guide in my signature, go to Cooling Central and you'll find some good advice. At the moment the Zalman seems to be the best for 15" notebooks, the 2000 is for 15"+ notebooks.

If you want a cheap and probably noisy cooler, you could try the Spire pacific breeze (Chaz has done a review)...

I'd suggest the Zalman based upon the reviews on here though...

At the end of the day it's what your comfortable with... I/We're here to help

Oh and no problems, if you've got any questions there's sure to be someone on here that can help out.

for the m15x, look towards the NC2000 or the NZXT Cryo LX.

    You will be assimilated!

Hmmmmm--how about a Dark grey brushed aluminum, green illuminated keyboard and green pulsating Alien head "Borg Edition"?

Could be the next "most powerful 15" laptop in the universe with a GTX280.

Thanks Julian! Alright Folks I purchased the NC2000 Mat today off of newegg.com! I am also making my own laptop cooling device, USB connectable, dual 80mm fans, Plexiglass design with bluw LED lighting. I am still trying to decipher if I want to have a 2-4 port USB hub on one side or not. lol Just a little pet project to prove I can to myself I guess! Pics in a few minutes of my progress!

go with an external power supply - two 80mm fans, plus the USB hub all running off a single USB port won't work too well. get a basic, externally powered USB hub and hook up the two fans. then build the case around that.

    Let us see! :)

Edit: is it easy to use a USB port as a power supply? ( I mean to cut a USB cable and find the right wire^^)

yeah It's pretty easy. But sometimes there aren't any red or black wires. So you must look VERY closely at the casing and read what it says. Usually the + casing will describe the gauge, form, and load of the wire, and the - side will either have an "x" every few inches (not to be mistaken for a "+" symbol).

Here is a link to the page about it all
