So I the M15x is on my short list for a <$2000 power laptop, but I am curious about battery life. I know the M15x doesn't have the integrated 9400m like the M17x does, so how does it do on battery? How much more will the 9 cell add vs the 6 cell?

Ideally I'd like to get about 3-5hrs of battery with the 9 cell if possible.

I highly doubt M15x will last that long even with a 9 cell battery... but then again, I may be wrong. =S

From a soon-to-be M15x owner, I would not expect this machine to be inspirational in the battery life department.

I configured with the 9 cell but I expect the battery will only last me ~2:30 based on the numerous benchmarks and tests I've seen.

On Balanced power mode, depending on activity of course, I usually get between 2:30 and 3:00 on the 9-cell battery.

On Power Saving mode, with wireless off, screen dimmed, Alien FX off I get over 3 hours.

I can also confirm on power saving mode, you will get at least 2:30-3:00 hrs with brightness set to the lowest as well as Alien FX off, and bluetooth off. I can definitely say that I have wireless on and an SSD drive. :D

battery life is short, better on the 9 than the 6 but most are buying the M15 for all the features that constrain and confine its battery performance: don't buy a Ferrari or an Aston Martin and then complain about mpg!
The M15 is a great laptop but it is neither light nor exceptional in battery life: it has other characteristics and bells and whistles that make it attractive: its not a Toyota, its a Ferrari.
