Well I am going to buy a gaming laptop sometime, and I don't know whether to go with the m17x or the Sager NP9850 so I decided to talk to a Alienware sales agent and see what they said. The person is a sales rep so he should have some good arguments for why I should go with their system right? Anyways heres the convo...

I'm replacing the guys name with X so he doesn't get fired...

8:55:34 PM System You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat

Feel free to email me at X or leave me a message at X ext. X, from XAM CST – X CST. Please provide your e-mail address and phone number where I can contact you in case we get disconnected. How may I help you with your purchase today?
    8:57:57 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X Hi Luke.
8:57:59 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X how are you today?
8:58:28 PM Luke Effa Hi, I am doing pretty well thanks. I am planning on purchasing a gaming laptop sometime between now and December. My two choices at the moment are your Alienware m17x or the Sager NP9850. As their specs and prices are pretty well identical I am just wondering for what reasons should I go with the Alienware instead of the Sager?
9:00:14 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X well Alienware systems are well known as best for gaming. they have more improve and more high end systems. That will surely serve your needs.
9:02:14 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X which games do you play?
9:02:43 PM Luke Effa I mostly play games like Crysis, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed or Oblivion.
    9:03:24 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X that's Cool.
9:03:44 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X are you interested in purchasing this system today?
9:05:00 PM Luke Effa No, I will most likely wait for a few months. I am trying to find out how the Alienware m17x is regarding heat generation and battery life.
9:05:24 PM BE_XPS_X ok consider me your personal agent you can email me in the email address I provided above once you're ready to purchase so I could assist you my name is X.
9:05:49 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X it is design will cool n quite design. and since it's for gaming it has better and longer battery life.
9:05:59 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X Is there anything else I may help you with regarding this concern?
9:06:55 PM Luke Effa About how long will the battery last under full load, while playing Crysis for example, and what GPU/CPU temperatures are to be expected?
9:07:45 PM BE_XPS_Rep_X up to 5 hours depending on operating conditions.

(I kind of ended the conversation quickly after that)

Mostly what I am wondering is...are all the sales agents like that, and...is this the sort of conversation I can expect from tech support? Because half the time I couldn't fully understand what exactly he was saying...

All of the sales agents that I've talked to have been quite good. However I've never asked them to compare a AW brand to a Sager brand. No offense to Sager, but unless you are fairly in the know about computers, you've probably never heard of Sager. For comparisons like that, come to these forums instead of getting it from a sales rep.

Everything else from that conversation definitely shows outsourced help.

Yeah I must agree with this, I'm sure the rep had no clue what Sager/Clevo is lol

If you need info, browse the forums here and ask someone, we're all pretty knowledgeable here.

BTW Qualao, I used to live in Winnipeg, Fort Rouge, what area you in, and how are things in the Peg?

I'm in the North Kildonan area, and this year has really sucked for weather. We're just now getting some hot weather. Looking forward to a two month summer :(

i have to agree with Qualao...

i am sure there are rules in place for the agents NOT to discuss other brands with prospective buyers.
even if you knew about sagers/hp/etc...it is bad biz to do so.

Ok lol, I guess it was a bad question to ask ^^

    Whats up with this though?

"I am trying to find out how the Alienware m17x is regarding heat generation and battery life. "

"it is design will cool n quite design. and since it's for gaming it has better and longer battery life."

He didn't seem to know what he was talking about very well : /

Well...I suppose the battery could last 5 hours if all you were doing was spreadsheets and word...

Ya said you have a while before you make your decision.

That's perfect. Keep checking out these forums A.W. and Sager, and you'll find out about all the best and all the worst these rigs have to offer. All this from people who will put these rigs through the ringer.

Then, you'll be able to make a truly informed decision.

Well Clevo is a Taiwanese company to begin with, they have resellers all over the world, some here in Canada and some in the US and Europe, if you purchased a Sager/Clevo in North America or the UK, your reps and customer service agents would speak pretty good English, unless you had the misfortune of talking to a fresh off the boat employee with a really thick accent which is not that likely.

BUT with a Sager/Clevo you wont get Dell's awesome Complete Care warranty, so that must be taken into consideration, I would rather buy from a company who has foreign reps with bad English and great warranties that cover accidental damage, than domestic reps with great English but a warranty that wont cover me if I accidentally drop my laptop or spill coffee on it.
