It's in french: http://portables4gamers.com/?p=10327
According to Portables4Gamers blog owner (who went to a conference of Alienware in Paris), Intel Calpella platform (with i7 processors) should be available on the Alienware M17x around the beginning of 2010.![]()

Not sure where you learned to speak french but since I am french I will translate correctly.
They say it will be available during the first semester of 2010 which means it could be May or June.
One thing that bothers me is that they talk about Area51 M17X which to my knowledge is not the same as the Allpowerful M17X but I might be wrong here. -
so a M17x refresh as i suspected
-
any shot of replacing the motherboard and chip or do we have to sell our machines?
-
I'm lebanese...so me too, I speak french.
Wasn't it what a meant? "During the first semester of 2010", that means between January and June...so for me it's the first half of the year. In other words, from its beginning to its half. :rolleyes2:
Area-51 M17x means here the Allpowerful M17x. I don't think it could be something else than that since they officially sell 2 different laptops today. -
Well, it was pretty much inevitable...
-
Yes and for some people like me, that's not cool, because I need to buy it right now...even if waiting and having an i7 would be so better!
-
I guess I'll sell my current one and get the refresh with Core i7 and a better video card or two. The GTX 280Ms feel a little slow already.
-
hopefully they'll include the new GPUs with the refresh
-
This is what Im holding out for.....timing could not be better for me!
thanks for the info gents. -
If only I could do like you. I think I'm the only one who has an Alienware in the country I live (Burkina Faso)...maybe in the whole region all around
(I would be happy to be wrong
)

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I'll just upgrade in 3-4 years and the M17x will be more powerful. There will always be a performance upgrade, and you will never have the best system ever. In 3-4 years, there will be a M20x.
-
Finally, that seems to be the right way of thinking we should adopt
Because trying to follow those upgrades is not really pleasant...unless you're so rich you don't know what to do from your money
-
Well I just bought a new car today, so looks like I have a better reason to wait to purchase this now
-
280s are too slow already? Haha, what do you want your video cards for? To fly? They are enough to max out 99% of all current games and until next major refresh on consoles there will be no games more demanding than Crysis. So you have 2 years at least (probably more) to enjoy 280s and 4870s. And if something comes out sooner,...well med/high will be enough for me, as my eyes can't see a big difference between high and very high in Crysis.
And for mobile i7s : 10-15% performance boost over QX9300 was not convincing IMHO. And if there's no way to boost all 4 cores to 3.2 at the same time, then games like Dragon Age (that can take advantage of all cores) will run better on core 2 quads.
Yet 5XXX sounds delicious so far
-
ohhh...dragon age...
how I want thee -
Usually Dell releases updates sooner in the USA compared to Europe but it seems they have started to change this lately and are doing worldwide release dates for new model.
I still think there is a chance to have an updated I7 M17X by Christmas. We'll see. -
100% Scytus. I bought my IBM Thinkpad for BG series and NWN back in 2002, now 7 years later I got M17X for Dragon Age! Sorry for off topic.... Couldn't hold myself.
-
Yes, that's still possible I think. We may also see on Alienware's competitors like Sager, AVA Direct and others: their laptops with Nvidia GTX 280m SLI also don't use i7 for now, even if smaller and lighter models from the same companies does.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
I dont think alienware is going to use current core i7's for the m17x, i think it's waiting for second generation. They stopped trying to be the first @ everything and instead thet started being the first to implement it the right way. BTW jadraja, i am from belgium
ever heard of roger de vlaeminck?
-
So Mandrake just reordered his m17x to get the 4870s... sorry Mandrake gotta send it back again
-
Oh really! I thought GTX 280M in SLI was better...or is he trying both to finally see which one is really better? If yes, that seems to be easy for him...because I would never mind returning my system only for trying that (Unless he's living in the USA, so that's much easier.)
-
First half of next year allows them to capture Arrandale in the update, so they can include that stock and upsell people to Clarksfield. Also allows for new GFX options as others have pointed out.
-
Arrandale should be geared more towards thin & light laptops, less heat/energy consumption.. Clarksfield is the top performer (until 32nm versions hit) -
third generation.
-
I doubt they'll make a 20" notebook...
But yea, I'm holding out for i7 and the HD5850/70's
-
Yeah they tried with the ALX 19 incher, it was a beautiful notebook but it is literally a foldable desktop
As for Mandrake I think it was because the 4870s are indeed faster and gddr5 but I have not checked in on that thread in a while, I am sure he will chime in eventually -
I just wanted to try something new. I kept it for 3 months. This one will take longer than that. I'm guessing 5-6 months.
-
Why...the refresh is like 5 months away, what in lords name would he do until then, twiddle his thumbs and bench microwaves? The news that it will come Q1 is significant in that it appears AW will strike again and release refresh a little before Clevo will. Let's hope they can do a better 15' this time around
-
Mandrake literally benches microwaves while he waits for his notebooks to arrive actually, it is how he is strong enough to carry his hefty m17x with just one arm
-
Continue the refresh discussion here. Thanks.
