Hey guys,
I have the 8700 on my laptop being shipped to me, but I'd like to upgrade to the 8800gtx. How much might it cost from Alienware and how hard is it to install? I've always built/worked on desktops with only software experience on laptops. Any info on laptop hardware configuration would be nice.I have no problem doing it myself and I will contact alienware first, but I'm too impatient to wait until tomorrow to call... so educate me, oh smart ones.

I am guessing $700. The installation should be rather easy.
-
Why arent you getting it with the 8800 in the 1st place then? Itd save a shedloada money...?

I would have ordered it with it, but I needed the laptop faster than the mid-late sept date that alienware was saying with the 8800gtx. My old one was coming apart and I do programming and everything else in college (I survive by this thing, haha), so I needed a working pc. The quickship system had everything I wanted except the vid card and seeing the ease of installation, I just bought the quick ship.
Anyway, back on topic, how does the case come apart or what comes off to install the card? -
-
yes but how much does it cost? 700? Seems nuts. 500 maybe. I've thought about upgrading later but I think most likely I'll just buy an entirely new machine 3 years from now instead.

I don't mind paying the prem. for the card or I wouldn't have asked.

It's all you then, mang. All of us that have it can attest to its beastliness.

I actually talked to sales about this via e-mail and didn't get a price quote. Got prices on smartbay peripherals but not the GPU upgrade. So far the 8700 is doing anything I want. I will someday upgrade but, much like Wally05, I wanted it for work so I went quickship. -
-
Nm, I get it. The 8600 doesn't cost anything on the Config.
Now you can relax. -
-
whoa, calm down, guys, haha.
I'm going to contact them soon about the gpu upgrade. Right now, I'm just trying to configure it to how I want it.
-
And yes, if you go config a m15x on their website, the 8600 costs nothing. It's the stock gpu.
*Edit*
Notice I didn't say it was free, I said it didn't cost anything on the "CONFIG". Yes I understand it's part of the 1499 cost. I was saying I understood where you were coming from. The idea being it was 200 dollars of that 1499, therefore that 200 is subtracted from the actual cost of a 8800. So take upgrade cost + stock gpu cost to get real cost. -
I got the unofficial price for it, but they won't have "extras" available until October.
-
Ouch. A one month wait doesn't sound too long though. It's not like you urgently need it now. :<

I don't know if I should post it for sure, but if you want to know, pm me.
The price could fluctuate and other factors. PM me if you're interested in the price!
