Last August I checked on the price of a second 7950 GTX and with the 10% discount it was $347.50. I just got off the phone with tech support and they told me the new price with the 10% discount and shipping is $477.15. Wow, usually cards that are more than a year old go down in price. He told me they have no control over the pricing. I'm guessing OPEC has bought the controlling interest in Nvidia!

Do you mean the 7950GTX? As with all older hardware, it will either be on reduced production, so Nvidia's economies of scale won't be so good leading to increased prices. Either that or production has stopped completely meaning those currently in existence are worth more because they are no longer easy to get.

Yeah, I meant 7950GTX. I chexked Ebay and it listed one for a Dell. Are they the same?

    Thanks, Rob

I think I'm gonna play it safe and just pony up the cash for the card from Alienware. I've got the UXGA screen so SLI should help and I plan on keeping this puter for a long while and if one graphics card dies I still have my laptop.

-Just ordered 4GB @667 (OCZ) from Newegg for less that $80. bucks.
-Tomorrow I will order a pair of SSD's.
    -No more upgrading.......boo hoo!

I too was given a different price when I called back two hours later.

    Item(s) Ordered:
    [Item:9750 NVIDIA 7950 GTX WITH 512MB DAUGHTER, Qty:1]

    [Item:9750 SLI CABLE, Qty:1]

The total for the card and the SLI cable after the 10% discount ended up being $481.00. That's with free shipping.

I also ordered two 32GB OCZ SSD's from newegg I'll set up in Raid 0.
In a couple days my 4GB of OCZ memory should be here. Any suggestions for benchmarking before and after each step? Iwould need free software.

    Thanks,
    Rob
