I am a fan of high tech security. If I get a USB fingerprint reader could I configure the M15x so I would need to use the AlienSense facial recognition, scan my finger, and type in a password to log on? I know it's really pointless but it would be cool.

Yes, like that. I don't have any, but I do have 2 little brothers who love to play video games. And they also download tons of stuff and generally crapify a computer. Something I don't want happening to my $3,000 custom computer.

I had the fingerprint reader on my previous laptop. It was just annoying swiping my finger over and over until it got it right - you have to swipe your finger at some right speed. Didn't really work faster than typing in the password.

I know it would take longer if I had triple layer protection. I'm not going to have just a fingerprint reader, I'm going to use the AlienSense program too, and a password.

    LOL.. Dude
You can have 10 methods for logging in, but as long your HDD is not encrypted everyone can bypass them :)

well, I dont think the usb fingerprint reader makes a lot of sense.

The problem is, what happens if you detach it? do you still require it? if yes, then imagine going on a trip and forgetting the fingerprint reader? Or, the fingerprint reader gets broken or one of your brothers will take it and hide it as a joke?

Anyway, in such a situation you would end up not having any way to log in?

I would just do a really good password such as:

    "3A2.tRi3.s34"

But, if you really want to do it in a cool way, you could consider something like this. All you need is to buy a really cool usb drive:

    http://www.rohos.com/products/rohos-logon-key/

this uses a usb pendrive which is needed to log in. Additionally you can make it first request a pin code.

The advantage of this is that you can easily carry the usb stick around, and you can still log into the pc if you happen to burn all your fingers

Even with some hard drive encryption you can pull the keys from RAM.. just keep in mind if they want it bad enough its only a matter of time..

However, I think he only wants to keep his brothers out.. I think this is overkill but should do the trick.. Just annoying to me to have that many layers on a daily basis.. I mean, when I worked at a bank that had financial information access ect we didnt have that many layers ahaha.

Every fingerprint reader that I have purchased (3rd party) has a password override or alternate way into the system Just incase it breaks..

Well, then just pick the other encryption methods (truecrypt) where even CIA won't be able to decrypt it for at least 3 months... :p

Cool, is there a way to make the hard drive self destruct if it's removed from the computer?

I was thinking a spring loaded pin that would trip and shatter the the platter if it was removed.

If you can get somone at the C.I.A. to insert some classified media (USB stick, CD) that is classified at the SECRET or above level, then it would automatically become property of the U.S Government and classifed as SECRET or whatever level the highest classification inserted into it was. Thus turning it into a real C.I.A. computer and limiting access to it by your brothers. ;) Good luck! :D

I found something really cool, it's called a Goldkey. It's a little USB stick that you use to encrypt your files. The files can then only be read when the Goldkey is plugged into the computer. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/abbb/
