Got a new m17x kinda basic the p8600 a 260m card 1333-4gb ram. but for sum reason it doesnt seem like it notices my gtx 260m. like if i open up something to tune the grpahics (usually nvidia software) i cant select the 260 just the 9400m or w.e. And it doesnt seem like my SLI software is working either anymore. like i tried the fn+f7 and when it rebooted it was just a black screen where the desktop should be. the little green icon in the tray isnt there anymore idk wth happened! i just wanna play crysis :(

Are you plugged in? Have you checked your BIOS to make sure the Hybrid function is enabled?

Also, you said you have A 260? As in, a single card? You won't be able to use SLi unless you have dual cards....

sorry it was a fast post, i shouldve been more clear. but yes i do have the single 260, and i meant the sli lil program sorry. the one that enables power saver or performance boost. Im usually always plugged in. but it seems i cannot switch to discrete graphics as if i only have the internal 9400 or w.e. thanks for the reply btw

yes hybrid sli was the term i was looking for thanks. I concur, once that is gone its all hell from there lol. I also performed a restore but had HELL doing it cuz someone shut my lid also causing the power cord to come out.. so the bootmgr went missing along with system save points and alienrespawn? but now im on it. Im missing alienrespwan my hybrid dohickey and my 260m doowah. ive been reading this place and all over the net quite a bit so i tried my best at research, but now im here. I did check the BIOS, if i enable the sli under the graphics setting once i reboot it wont show a desktop so i know something is wack cuz when it was fresh outta the box i had it enabled n working. this thing is crazy im used to my xp n 2001 dell :). but yes anymore help is welcome thanks again. :D

you can boot from alien respawn

download Gparted then burn it to a live CD using infrarecorder

Then boot from g parted then flag the alienrespawn partition to boot and your good to go

thanks for that tip. If you mean parted with partition then its not there. like alienrespawn isnt on my system at all. it doesnt even ask to press f10 after the alienhead screen. so i think i gotta go buy it again. Any idea of how to get my discrete graphics working again?

Gparted is a free partitioning program. Moo was saying to boot off the disc for it, and it will show you all the partitions on your computer. You can then set the boot flag for the AlienRespawn partition, which will make your computer boot onto that partition automatically.

    click storage

you should see a EISA partition if that is there you still have respawn ;)

yes you can send it in to have your laptop upgraded.

When you luanch alienrespawn it will/has the option to save ALL old files in a file on your hard drive so you don't need to back anything up

but i reccomend a full restore

Where can i find info on sending it in, cause honestly dell has ignored 4 of my emails about upgrades.. So your saying dont use the respawn to backup anything, just use it for the restore? i was gonna use an external HDD anyways i think, but thanks for letting me know all of this sir. it feels like i get more customer service here than i do with dell or AR lol. i dont even get a myhive :(

Call AW tech support and make sure you tell them you have the new DELL Alienware M17x.

Make sure they know and understand it is the new M17x, not the older m17x. lol

From there you should be transferred to the right ppl.
