    Hey guys,

So I kinda dropped a keyboard on my m17 and cracked the screen... The LCD itself isn't damaged, just one of the layers in between the front layer and the LCD.

So I was wondering if anyone knew a place in Victoria, Australia that could actually repair this rather than replace the screen.

Either that, or if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a new screen (it's the 1920x1200 version) without needing to fork out $400.

Do you think by some miracle Dell would help? (Since Alienware don't officially exist anymore and the laptop is no longer under warranty by about a week...)

    Thanks in advance,

    ~Cyro

This is weird but I called dell about my area-51 m15x once, and they referred me to buy from another site that carried the LCD that work for my system, lol. I ended up just keeping my original screen though. I bought it used, and it had a matte screen and at the time I thought I wanted Gloss Tru Bright, but I ultimately ended up liking/loving the mattte screen and kept it, lol.

If it's the external plastic cover that was cracked, why don't you just cut the entire frame out, exposing the LCD itself. I'm sure that it's not gonna ruin the screen.

Gah, just found a place which will replace the polariser but it would cost $280, I may as well just buy a new screen...

Btw, it's the 1920x1200 screen (WUXGA I believe).

    Thanks anyway for your help.

the screen is EXTREMELY easy to remove, just start to pull it out and get the # of the back ebay has them for sale all the time. you might even be able to get a tla2 screen for like $185. would be a killer upgrade from the reg wuxga screen. heres the part#
    LP171WU1 TLA2 .

Just as a matter of interest, why would the LP171WU1 TLA2 be better than the standard WUXGA? (Not great with differences between screens)

its a better screen you will notice the difference, beleive me ask some of the other fourm members, i used one to replace a screen in a gateway & a toshiba and they both blew my m17 away as far as clairity & vibrance, i dont really know how else to explain the difference, i was skeptical at first but i ordered what the customer wanted and i was suprised, wish i would have jumped on the screen scook had for sale to put in my m17 ,as they can be elusive~ unless you pay $250 for them. they show up on ebay from time to time for around $185...... you could email the guy who's selling those others and see if they have any, i buy screens from him that they dont list on ebay from time to time.

My current inverter, 30 pin connector and brackets should be fine on that screen right?
