Hey Guys, Has the cracking issue been resolved? How do you know if something will crack and where will it crack. Thanks for the help.
-
according to people who just got their m15x its seems to be resolved. you will know it might crack if there is a gap on top of one of your ports.
-
I have a question about this. I have the gap on my M15x above the ethernet port.
People keep talking about cracking. Does that mean it will eventually crack? How? What should I look for?
If this is resolved - how was it resolved for people who already have their laptops? -

If you now have a gap it may crack in few month or never. How should someone know this now ?
Worst case looks like this :
-
I just got my m15x and the gap is not there and so far no cracking.

I wonder if you can send your M15x to be repaired if it has the crack?
-
So if no gap then its fine?
-
I am still waiting for mine to come back -
Would you consider this the "gap"?
-
Well, I can't see anything from that resolution and angle.

Hard to tell. When did you get the system?

One of the NBR members, Nycesis, took a picture of the fixed gap:

Ok I guess it is a bit bent upwards
So how do you fix a 'weak' chasis? -
-
. But when i saw that picture of the 'fixed' gap i saw the it looks the same as mine so i think i got a fixed one and got a little calm

I guess you should just ask Alienware if yours came with or without the fixed chassis.

I looked around and bit and unfortunately I'm pretty sure you've got one without the fixed gap. They didn't start building m15xs with the fixed chassis until after March 20, when they also fixed the BIOs and started shipping systems without the overheating problems (which is fixable for early adopters by upgrading your BIOs).

Now that I think about it, there's a reason why some m15xs crack because of the gap. The pressure put on the notebook by putting it in a tight case/putting a good amount of pressure on the notebook itself/pressure from closing it can cause the top part of the case above the gap to be pressed onto an angle into the bottom half of the case, causing cracking. Maybe you should try putting a decent amount of pressure on the notebook (make sure it's a good amount more than what'll you'll do during normal use) to see if your m15x cracks, just to give a peace of mind if it doesn't. If it does, which it would've eventually anyway, send it into Alienware and they'll fix the chassis.

hmm i found somethng odd, when i got my laptop, the lid was cosed and i inspected the side where the gap occured, i saw it, a small minor thing and i was gonna say, meh i can live with that. i opened the lapto, messed around with some things, looked at where the gab was....and it was gone
...
no I was not drunk\or exhusted when i noticed the gap, i just wish i hadnt lent my camera to my friend otherwise i coulda had a before and after picture showing the gap dissapear....how the....
whatever, I'm not complaining about it disappearing -
