Lord, I've been frustrated with this thing!
After about a week with my new motherboard (had to be replaced) in my M17X, I've noticed a really annoying noise coming from the back/bottom. It seems almost electrical, quiet, but with QUITE an audible (slightly high)pitch. It doesn't sound like a fan, those are working great now. When Im gaming you can't hear it, but when Im working on an essay or just in a quiet room people notice and is highly distracting. On AC or battery, it doesn't matter, this weird electrical chirping/screeching won't stop. Not to mention its giving me a killer headache.

Does anybody have an idea what might the problem be, motherboard perhaps?
After already replacing a CPU fan, 2 graphics cards, a new mobo, Im begining to get scared by my onsite technician. I don't think he wants to drive wayyy out in the woods to see me and this laptop anymore. And I just want this darn thing to work normally.
    Thanks for any input!
    :)

with that many issues, i say replace it. if you already have all these issues reported it should be pretty easy to get a replacement.

So is that the consensus then? I really don't want to go through all this trouble and waiting, this is the biggest pain in the butt $3k + has ever cost me.
Any advice when I talk to Dell then about a replacement, whats the general procedure? Should I even bother to ask for some upgrade or swag or not. I just want to get the most out of what i paid for.
Thanks NBR for all of the help, this forum rocks!
I wish i could know you under better circumstances...

It might be a faulty capacitor on the new Mobo. You either have to replace whole system or mobo again.

On the phone with Dell right now about getting a replacement. Out of curiosity is it out of line to request an upgrade or some form of free swag for all my trouble? Or no? suggestions?
    Thanks!

Oh crap. I've been wondering what that sound is! Tried calling Dell about it a week after I got my system (now a few months old). The funny thing is that it goes away after re-booting, but it comes back in about one in 2 reboots. I think I might have to spend some time on the phone asking Dell to fix it...

I would mikld01. I had same issue where you have to reboot to get something to work. But with differnt hardware. Mine was the cpu/gpu fan. It would not work when you frist turn on. It can be confused by techs. Due to the Reboot. Sending my laptop in 5 times just to replaced the heatsink Fan.

Hey TIM, in your sig I see you had 3 replacements already so far. Make sure to get 'em replace the whole system this time. Say no if they want to replace parts and stuff. Let 'em know that you are disappointed with your laptop, big time, and suggest that some freebies may ease your pain :D
