I am big time disapointed in crysis. All the game reviews mentioned its awesome game play and graphics. How come no one mentioned that it is full of bugs, and bogs down for no apparent reason (even with the patch)? My M17x has a 2.5GHZ processor and two 9800gts with 4 gigs of ram and the latest video drivers more than enough hardware. Has anyone gotten this game to run smoothly on high or ultra high settings? I even get an occasional hicup in med!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My m17x plays the two newer call of duty games with all setting maxed out without a hicup same for need for speed underworld and the new tomb raider.

    You should try another driver.
Latest driver doesn't mean to be the best driver. I assume that you have SLI config, and there is only a few drivers work great with SLI.
Look around this forum for some good drivers that people are using.
    Gud luck.

you can't compare Crysis' "high settings" with other games' "high settings" - basically, everything in Crysis is bumped up a notch or two. "high" in Crysis is comparable to the "very high" or even "extreme" of other games. as for "ultra high", the number of computers that can run Crysis at full resolution and ultra high is very, very low.

Nowadays there are hardly any differences between the manufacturers' claims and product reviews so you should be ready to take them with a grain of salt. Use Dox 181.22 or 182.05 if running Vista x64. These two drivers gave me large performance gains in certain games.

    Hi

I got Crysis run on my M17 with palyable 25-30fps on 1440x900 everything maxed out! (DX10 64bit mode)

It depended on the driver! Befor 9.2 I got about 20 fps which makes it hard to play.

I also suggest you to try a differenct driver! I also read test which say you should be able to run it ...

And ... you have nvidia cards so you should get even more fps than I with my dual 3870 ...

Edit: I may be it's because of W7 I'll test Crysis on Vista (both 64bit)

    Greetings
    Julian

I was running the settings on high with 2xaa and 1400 resolution. was very choppy. Now im running on all med settings. But I believe TWO 9800 gts should be able to run that game at higher settings than that. Med looks like poo. I downloaded the 182.xxx driver I'll install it once my shift is over and let you gentleman know the results.

I would turn off aa. Crysis is demanding enough as it is, you don't need aa slowing it down even more, not on a laptop anyway.

on high or very high settings and at resolutions above 1280x800, crysis needs more than 512mb of video ram so i am afraid you will not have a smooth gaming experience with your system if you insist of playing in high resolutions.

crysis is a dual-threaded game so it will not benefit from a quad core cpu.

Been a while but im back. So I downloaded the latest 182 driver. And wow the game is amazing. I can run all the settings on very high. 2xaa, no v sync, pysics, at a resoluton of 1200. The only level I had to go back to high settings for was the air craft carrier level.

Now on to tomb raider. That game looks sick!!!!!!!!!! The water looks amazing!!!!!

No the truth is no matter how good your computer is your going to have hiccups in Crysis because of the system... Its really smooth but it still has glitches like any other game, its probably not your computer.

Oh, I learned that on both cards (dual videocards) are the same datas in the videoram ... so I have "only 512MB" as well, but I can play^^ Not tooo well but I can, so what do you mean with "needs more than 512mb", I'll try to use 1280x800 and see wheather I get a big FPS improofement but I think I didn't realice one ...

    Greetings
    Julian

I have to agree on all the statements. Above 1280 the game doesnt play well and I think it is the game not our systems. COD4 will all the settings cranked up looks amazing. Bodies everywhere fire, smoke, etc. With no slow downs. Has to be the game, a shame becasue crysis is amazing to look at.

I only have it on W7 atm but I tested it right now and:

    1280x800 - 1440x900 I get a difffrence of 2fps, eg:
    water 25-23
    jungle 19-17
    ...

it's not so much about getting better fps as most likely you are getting pretty good fps as it is and you think the game "Stutters" or is not coded correctly when in fact your vram buffer is being overrun and requiring textures and data to be constantly swapped out, which causes the general stutter and poor gameplay you are experiencing, despite your fps showing a smooth number, like 30fps, for example.

1280x800 all high settings and you will have an awsome game experience and the game will look as good as it was intended to. in fact, you can probably bump the post processing setting to very high to enable god rays and still maintane smooth fps.

it's not the game, it's the lack of gpu vram. 512mb of vram is not enough to run the game at high settings with high resolutions, like i mentioned previously. with SLI your vram does not double. i learned the hard way regarding this as well. i purchased my laptop to play crysis and i was kind of ticked off that i could not play it in my native resolution 1920x1200 due to the lack of gpu vram. i can upgrade my system to the 1gb vram cards but they are too expensive right now.

you cannot compare COD4 to crysis they are totally two different games. crysis has dustructable environments and a very far field of view. you can shoot a missile and hit a target 2 miles out. the target explodes sending interactive debri everywhere. you can later walk up to that same point of impact and interact with the debri since alot of the game's models have physics. this level of freedom and interactivity requires alot of ram. also, crysis looks twice as good or more compared to COD4, which was built on a console platform. crysis was built for pc.

Crysis has memory leaks. And they still have alot of kinks to work out on the engine. Just w8 for the next CryEngine game on the PC and it should run alot better.
