Hello all. I'm just curious of what everyone got for their warranty and service. Just trying to debate what I should get. Thanks in advance.

You didn't mention what system your getting.

Anyways, if it's the M17x I got the base 1 year. I always do this with Dell warranties as you can extend and/or upgrade later on.

So how does the warranty work? I see there are remote diagnosis, my tech team, and complete care. What are they for? I have never bought any warranty for computer, but since it's m17x, I want some backup just in case something happens to it.

Remote Diagnosis is where a tech uses an application to control your laptop from the service center to try to determine the problem. It's the first step before they come and fix your laptop (if the M17x) or you mail it in (m15x/M17).

My Tech Team apparently gets you the option to chose a tech and to schedule phone service. Don't think I'd spend money for that one.

Completecare is accidental damage insurance for the life of the warranty, so if it gets dropped, Dell will still fix or replace it.

Three years standard level. I've never had problems with Dell's CS. Even when talking with the foreigners lol....

Whichever system you go for...I'd just go for 1 year to start with (unless you have tons of money and can afford the warranty there and then). While you're still in warranty you can extend it. So right before the year ends you can extend it to 3 years if you do so wish (it's what I plan on doing).

Did Alienware finally get rid of their sub-par warranty and switch over to Dell's warranty?

Also: Hi... Thought'd I'd troll and see whats going on with AW these days (I sold my M9750).

The new M17x has the warranty through Dell, including on-site repair and completcare option. The m15x and m17 are still under the old Alienware system.

I have just talked to a buddy that used to work at dell, and according to him, complete care is definitely the way to go. Dell will replace anything and everything within 48 hours, and if they don't have the parts readily available, it is suggested to whine and cry to their manager, and you just might get an upgrade too.
