I can get this for the price listed with 3-5 day shipping and no sales tax automatically from AAFES, which is a military-only online site.

Is there anything in this configuration I should change or that I'm missing? I'm going to do a phone order with a sales rep and throw this configuration out to them telling them the price with free shipping and no sales tax, and ask for free NBD and maybe an upgrade somewhere else then I'll do the transaction with them so they get their commission.

What do you all think? I'm trying to set myself up for success by following http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456885

You got it down that low just by haggling, being like hey I'm not gonna get you your commission unless you bring the price down, aka putting a gun to their head?

I really just find it insane that you got it for THAT much cheaper, IDK how they'd willingly be able to make it go down that far, it just befuddles me

if I get sub-2500 for this system I'll be thrilled, tbh

I dunno, maybe this really is easier than it seems, I'm kinda nervous for tomorrow, it'll be gametime tomorrow morning when I call a sales rep.

Also, do you know of any Alienware coupons going on right now?

I know of the 12 months no interest financing, which is gonna help me out a lot, hence why I'm even discussing buying one of these machines

Nope, my cherry will be popped tomorrow, kinda nervous, not the best liar/haggler, but I feel confident with leverage

I guess if I ask too much they can always say no, it's not like they're going to say NO WE WON'T SELL TO YOU ANYMORE YOU'RE ASKING FOR TOO MUCH, the worst they can say is nah we can't do that

FWIW deltawing, I don't think AAFES has their M17x priced properly. I bought the M15x in sig through AAFES and it was MUCH less than the Dell site.

If you're haggling doesn't go well, I'd suggest you wait a bit to see if the AAFES upsite will be updated to reflect an actual savings. The last time I priced the same M17x on both AAFES and Dell, the Dell was almost $200 cheaper!! Of course, there was tax, which for me would be about $230 or so, but I am convinced they don't have it priced right, based on all other computers I have purchased through the AAFES specialty stores over the years, especially Dell.

    Good to know, thanks!

I am gonna price this same configuration at dell.com and see what I get and compare it to AAFES, will post results

That is why I don't think it is priced right at AAFES. We are supposed to get a savings outside of saving tax/shipping. Check some other computers (even Dell), and you'll see what I mean. The only other thing I can think of is that the demand for the M17xR2 is so high they think folks won't wait for a discount via AAFES...

I waited for AAFES to show the usual discount on the M17x-R2 since it was first on there last month. It hasn't budged, so I couldn't wait any longer. The M11x is even more expensive than Dell's site without the EPP and same configuration! Dell controls AAFES website and they just haven't done anything with it. The AAFES reps told me they have no control of it.

I bought mine by calling Dell, getting the 10% EPP discount (just tell them you are military), and getting an extra $200 off (total) for using my Dell Preferred Account. I had to call back once to get the better price. Got a different sales rep the next day who beat the first quote. I got it low enough that it made up for the savings I would have got with the tax if I bought it through AAFES. :)

Give it a shot and call back if you don't like the first price you get. Make sure they email you a quote, then call back the next day and see if you can get a better deal from someone else. More than likely they will beat the first quote.
