Hi, I am a new owner of Alienware M15x. I've recently did a clean installation of Windows 7 from Windows Vista and my DPC latency rose from all green bars to all yellow bars and occasionally some red bars. Besides this, I can hear the static sound and popping audio every 2 to 3 seconds even when the notebook isn't playing anything. :(

In fact I've saw some threads in this forum regarding to this issues already.

    My questions are,
-Is there a sequence order for the drivers installation to prevent conflicting?
-What do you get in the DPC latency when your notebook comes with Windows 7 preinstalled. ( Mine came with Windows Vista )
-Could this be a defective unit?
-What should I do next? :(

Any suggestions or guides are much appreciated! Thanks in advance. :)

Yours is the first report on this I've seen for this. The others are for the M17x. Any other owners want to chime in?

I think there's something to do with the driver's installation order. Maybe it's the same way like what the last generation m15x did?
For the worse part, I guess I will do a clean installation again and try to isolate the driver one by one.
I've attached the screenshot file below.

But from what the information I gathered, let's say from Notebookcheck, they have a unit that comes with Windows 7 pre-installed.
    Here's the information

Therefore, this lead me to think that it has to do with the drivers installation after the Windows 7 installation. Anyone kind enough to throw a bone?

Did you create a factory backup install? For once, the stock factory install from Dellienware was pretty much on point.

Well, thanks for your concern. :) The problem still remains because I bought the unit when Windows 7 hasn't out yet. So, I will still have to do the Windows 7 installation. Besides that, I have formatted the recovery partition because I think I have no longer need the Vista version anymore. :(

Try not installing drivers you don't need. Chipset + Video to start.

I hope those user who bought the M15x with Vista pre-installed and did the upgrade to Windows 7 kind enough to post their DPC latency.

Just to confirm, the issue didn't exist under the original Vista OEM factory install?

On my M15x with W7 audio is better than on Vista I had factory preinstalled. However, both systems had all time green line in DPC latency checker. I installed clean W7 from upgrade received with laptop. No problems. Audio driver stock from dell website.
First I would reinstall W7 and use stock dell driver. Than you'll see.

    cheers

Hey guys, I think I've just found myself the solution. This may be an advice for everyone out there who owns a M15x and planning to do a clean installation. Well, I was kind a fed up and gave it a shot on this. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342331
So, I followed the sequence and miracle happened. After 3 hours of work,
everything turns out to be normal I guess. No more latency spikes, all green bar, eco-friendly all the way. :D Statics are gone forever.
