I want one soooo bad, but its just so hard to bring myself to buy one when i know Sagers are much better, overall. I keep telling myself that my mind is made up, and im getting the sager, but i keep going back to Alienwares website, and building models. I just cant help it :(

Plus, ever since i was a kid, rocking my Starcraft and reading PC gamer magazine, all i ever wanted was an Alienware. So much so that my first computer me and my dad built, had an Alienware look-alike chasis. Now that im a grown adult, and able to make my own purchases, i feel like its time to reward myself that which ive always wanted.

However, at the same time, i have to also realize that with my new born son, this will be my last laptop purchase for many, many years. So i need the most bang for my buck, and thats where Sager comes in.

    I hate being a grown up V_V.

How are Sagers better? Granted they're good machines, but...

Well, considering the M17x is about to be released with 5870 crossfire (some people already say you can phone to order it as of an hour or so ago) it will once again be the most powerful gaming laptop in existence. The crossfire 5870s are without a doubt the most powerful mobile graphics solution.

Not to mention you get one of the best built laptops ever, with fantastic cooling, good display options, a Dell warranty (Dell are renowned for being good) and, of course, the looks and lighting.

Still, in terms of 'bang for your buck', while it is good value it isn't cheap to buy with the two graphics cards. Worth it if you CAN afford it, but if you can't, well...you can't.

Sager is NOT better. The build quality of the M17X is unsurpassed by any brand out there. Not sure where you are getting your info.

The components in the M17X are top of the line, just don't kid yourself with crazy non sense and get an Alienware.

Im not a big fan of dual GPU laptops. A single GPU is all i need, as im not looking to spend that much money for such little performance boost. My budget is already up there as it is.

This sounds like a hidden commercial :) Well be my guest to buy a sager, but I still prefer my M17X, regarding the grown up stuff then grown up people also buy Alienware products. Nothing can or will beat the feeling of sitting in the dark with an Alienware where all the light are turned on and then play scifi games ;) Just my humble opinion...
Also what is the point of this thread?

You don't have to buy two GPUs. It's called an option meaning you have the choice...

If you can afford it, buy an Alienware. If you don't do it now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. :p
Also when the CF 5870's will come out, you'll have an extreme system for years. I know this all, because I did. My XPS M1730 was the only powerfull notebook I ever bought, 2 years ago. Because of my personal situation it may not happen again. The only chance I got is if my GPU's get fried I might get an Alienware M17x under warranty.

So I tell you: Go for it! ;)

Single GPU's at least laptop GPU's of the MXM series are not always the optimal solution to support gaming at high resolutions that alot of them are currently at. On average I don't for a second thing that most desktop users game at 1920 x 1200 while I'm sure most 17 inch laptop users are in fact at that resolution

Some folks have what I call the "Honda Civic" syndrome... What does it mean.. simple.. You know you want something fast. You could save your money for the time it takes to get something fast, ALA Mustang GT or insert your favorite new car here that does 1/4 mile in 13second range.

But instead they want something right now, and therefore buy the Honda Civic (no offense to those that have one, I personally have owned 2k si and 2k2 si). Then they spend $10,000 dollars to make it run 13 second 1/4 mile.

If they had just saved there money, they could have had the mustang, without having to beat up the civic with parts and have a fast car stock.

So to reel this back in, save yourself the time, the money, the quality... just buy the Alienware.

    BW,

    StevenX

Also mine will come with single card and that is good enough to run 99% of the games on the market. Is that not enough bang for the money? Besides if you are gonna spend like 1500 -2500 $ on a notebook then at least it should look nice too :D

Well then I the King of all Dwarfs command you to buy an Alienware and become one of us :D No just kidding it is a nice machine and it is not that expensive i you save some trips to the pub etc. As long as you remember to invest in some kind of complete care/extended warranty or else you will regret it when your child or colleagues drop their milk/coffee down in the keyboard :)

So, building identical machines, this is what ive come up with.

    Sager price 2,498.46
    What it offers over Alienware.
Tv-Tuner, Tv tuner remote, fingerprint scanner, +2 year warrenty (3 years vs alienwares 1 year. Alienwares 3 year is too expensive).

    Alienware price 2753.00
    What it offers over Sager.
48GB more SSD drive (smallest sager SSD was 80gigs, alienwares is 128GB. Most of the extra cost is due to this, i imagine)
Personalized name plate (nothing special, but cool none the less)
    Aesthetically bad *** .

USE DELL EPP! You don't need to be a student or work for an organization to get it. I'll even send you an EPP number to use if you need it, it's from my apartment building.

Does Alienware/dell offer military discount, plus do they ship to APO?

I bought my last sager during my first deployment to Iraq, and had no issues having it shipped here. Im in Iraq again now, so this is vital. Plus, Sager offers a military discount.

Yes Dell has a discount for military personnel. You can go through the website for military vets (I think it's AAFES or something like that). Or you can Dell and ask for the military discount.

Not sure about a military discount, but as of last year, Dell was not shipping Alienware to APO. Hopefully this has changed...

@ Dwarf King, With what he said above it sounds like a troll job.

@ Nydas, Sagers are not better. If this isn't a weak attempt at a troll thread, I can assure you that this generation of Alienware especially the current M17x is superior to any Clevo (Sager) on the market right now. I own a Clevo so I can speak with experience on this. The build quality is better than anything I've ever experienced with Clevo. The plastics used on the Alienwares are high quality wear resistant as opposed to the cheap plastics used on the Clevo laptops that wear down in a matter of a month and look like shiny grease stains that can't be wiped away. The cooling is as good as a Clevo, the Alienware looks a thousand times better than any Clevo, and Dell's Advanced warranty can not be competed with by any reseller.

This time around Alienware is superior and wins in pretty much every important category. Hence why I have an Alienware right now and not another Clevo.

Does Dell actually check if you tell them you can use the Boeing EPP discount? How do they know and can they find out if you give a fake EPP code even though if it is wrong to lie?

Don't lie. If you don't have an EPP code then just try to haggle a discount from your rep.

Well you could save some $ if you didn't pick the SSD in the alienware. I have been told ALOT that I should keep myself away from Dell SSD, if I wanted the best speed out there. And buy an Intel SSD when I have the money later on.

The Intel SSD 160GB that I'm going to buy when i get my m17x, should be overall faster and better. ( i don't know about TRIM, but i think Dells SSD doesn't have that, but I'm not sure)

So you could start with 500GB HHD and then later on buy a intel 160GB SSD and replace that in your system.

Yes they check that and you'll have your order canceled. They don't check normal EPP codes or care but special ones they do.

The price difference isn't massive. For a second 5870-correct me if I'm wrong-it should be around $300 extra. A hefty difference for some, yes. But the performance difference is significant.

Even in games that don't support crossfire well, you'll get a good boost. I mean, with the 3870s, they boost Crysis framerates by about 40% and Crysis has horrible multi-GPU support.

Still, a single mobility 5870 should be plenty for most non-hardcore gamers.

That would be pretty something if they came to Iraq. With customer service like that, id be sold in a heartbeat.

Even after Iraq, though, ill be in Germany. So this does me no good.

In Germany they will come to you to repair it. Dell has a world wide presence.
