The "A" key on my keyboard is completely broken. Meaning it doesn't work at all. I'm typing them right now using the on screen keyboard. It's really hrd so i'm going to stop doing it now just figure out wht I'm sying.

My keybord broke it seems. Over the p4st 4 d4ys few of the keys h4ve slowly gotten worst 4nd worst. The sp4ce key seems to be not working properly either (the w4y it clicks). I tried t4king off the keys th4t 4ren't clicking properly 4nd putting them b4ck on but it didn't help. Seems my keybo4rd re4ched the end of it's life?

I completely took out my keybo4rd nd tried fixing it, no such luck. I'm very very very very very very very very very very m4d right now. This is my only computer 4nd I liter4lly h4ve 4bsolutely no money to buy 4 new keybo4rd. Liter4lly I h4ve 4bout $10 right now.

    This is the m15x btw.

maybe buying a latop wasnt the best idea you might have had .. specially if your low on money.. Maybe its Dutch mentality

Maybe having a broken keyboard can motivate you to get a job and pay for a replacement yourself?

Dont get me wrong I spend loads of cash on my computers.. but only when I can afford it.. If I need a replacement part I save money untill I can pay for it ( if it isnt within warrenty that is.. )

I've replaced the keyboard on my wife's M9700 twice now (don't get me started). Alienware charges around $20 for the M9700 one. Not sure how much the oone would cost for the m15x of course if it's different. They got my credit card info, mailed it out with info on how to send the broke one back. If they get it within 30 days or so, it's free. If not, they charge the $20. This won't work of course since it's not under waranty but should give an idea on price.

I'm only 16. I live in the middle of freaking nowhere. I have tried applying everywhere in my little pathetic excuse for a town.

I do a little bit of work for my parent's web design when they need it. Obviously I haven't had any work for a little while.

I'll try contacting Alienware and see how much it is. Maybe they'll feel compassionate and give me a discount or something lol.

You can get another one on eBay for 24.99 + Shipping. It's not the AlienFX that lights up though.

You can buy a prepayed creditcard from Walmart or other chain stores. The other idea is deal with out a laptop for 8 days and send the keyboard in and they ship one out. They can send a fedex guy out to pick itup. Best not use your computer untel you get the new keyboard.

He's not under warranty so he cannot send the laptop (or keyboard) to AW.

To the OP: eBay is probably your best choice. Good luck.

no its been out longer then a year, but any way the only way he could get it fixed is to get the orginal owner to send it back in *if its still under warrenty*

I contacted that roswell email address, asking for help and asking how much it would be to buy a m15x keyboard from them.

This was the response I got...

"I am really sorry to hear that you are having all these issues with your laptop.

Unfortunately as per company policy since you bought the system from a third party we are unable to sell you any parts for the computer or to provide you with any type of service."

That makes no sense. Unable to provide any service or allow me to buy a keyboard from them? And on top of all of this, there aren't any m15x keyboard currently up on ebay. I'm completely stuck with no way of getting a m15x keyboard?!?!?! I need one, my laptop isn't a laptop if I have to have it hooked up to an external keyboard 100% of the time.

    Messed up....

Well, it makes sense to me. They don't want to just sell parts and have someone build their own, they want to sell computers. Specifically, they want to be the ones selling them, so they restrict support to initial purchases.

I'm not saying it helps you, or that you shouldn't be frustrated by it, I'm just saying that I think it does make sense frmo their point of view.

So, ebay for you. Or external keyboard would probably work, but that would proabbly be nearly as annoying as just the glue solution.

Use the onscreen keyboard for now or just use an external keyboard (a mini one that can go over your broken one)

Have you tried taking it apart and seeing if it's a broken spring or something simple to replace?

BTW Be careful what you ask for, The Alienware guys are members and usually watching...

I'd PM James and ask his advice?

Ya I did that. Everything appears perfectly normal. That little white rubber piece that's under every key appears to be just fine under the "A" key, should be working but it's not. I think the problem lies somewhere else.

It came out of nowhere too. Not like it was gradually getting worst. It just stopped :S

And yeah I know they are around here. Trying to be careful about what I say :D . I just wish they'd offer even one spec of support instead of slamming the door in my face, not like I'm trying to build my own laptop or anything.

I don't know if it helps you guys troubleshoot my issue. But when I boot my computer and it gets to the login screen, some key is being held down. So when it gets to the login screen there's a bunch of black dots and I have to hold down my backspace key for like 10 secs before they all get deleted. And my A key still doesn't work.

It's almost like maybe it's being permenantly held down (even though it's not) so whenever the computer boots vista "de-activates" that key or something?

Is there anywhere I can buy a keyboard?

I have money now. There is only one on ebay, the non-illuminated one. Since I'll be spending money on a new keyboard, and I was planning on buying an illuminated one in the future, I need to find an illuminated one. I've given ebay some time, 5 days now actually. Still only the non illuminated one.

Alienware totally denied me from buying a keyboard from them.

Is there anywhere to find a alien fx illuminated keyboard from someone? Used or new! I don't care. I just need one!
