Hi I just recently upgraded to a AGA with a 1080 ti (literally this week and well I purchased a ti and they sent me a 1080, they are sending the ti should be here by Friday, and I have had performance issues with it so far all explained here) http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/bad-benchmark-score-help.810993/page-4#post-10635992 so I now believe the 6700HQ might be bottlenecking this 1080 and if that is the case I'm better off returning it and getting a 1070 ti or 1070. My question is this on your 6700HQ what are you running in your aga has any of you experienced this with a 1080? its a Asus gtx 1080 turbo. And if you have did you find a work around or return the card? any advise would be greatly appreciated :) thank you in advance

UPDATE: so after much frustration and hastle I finally figured it out, so the 6700 HQ is only capable to process 1980 cuda cores before it starts to bottleneck, so if your running a 6700HQ you can get anything up to a 1070 8gb but do not get a 1070ti a 1080 or 1080ti

Using it for more than a year now and no bottlenecks. My CPU is never reaching 100% use in games running at 144P with a framerate up to 165hz.

    I run a 1070 but heavily OCed.

Yeah I found out that anything higher then 1920 cuda cores is going to bottleneck the 6700HQ so that includes the 1070 ti, 1080 and 1080ti so I picked up a EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW2 8gb GAMING iCX, and returned the 1080ti it should be here on monday

And thank you for your reply I'm glad someone did :)

It is not really bottlenecking the card, but some games do depend more on CPU power, especially BF1 for example. But when you play on higher resolutions like 1440P and 4K those differences disappear quickly. So I wouldnt worry myself too much.

according to the test results it is, and according to CPU-z my cpu isnt running near what it should be but my thermals are great on single thread I'm getting 315-318 should be atleast 325 on multithread im getting 1683 and it should be at 1897 so I am honestly stumped and I don't know what to do to be real I'm kinda disheartened with this whole thing I'm ready to sell this thing and either build a desktop or go really big and drop some serious cash on new one

Strange, seems a driver issue. I do know that the 10XX cards demand more from the CPU when running, I tested this on my desktop when I switched for a 970 to a 1070. But to check if your system is bottlenecking you should run the benchmark and log your CPU usage and GPU usage with MSI afterburner or something similar.

If your CPU usage is near 100% and your GPU well under 90% means that your GPU would be waiting for your CPU and being bottlenecked (not during the CPU test ofcourse, that oen is made to find the limit of your CPU).

I tested various cards between my AGA and desktop a year ago and FIrestrike scores where near identical on both systems except the physics score, that is CPU only ofcourse.

Holy crap, Well I redownloaded all of the intel drivers from the dell website, reinstalled them and you are right my friend I believe it was a driver issue on single thread I was getting 315-318 now I'm at 367 (325 is standart 6700HQ) and at multi thread I was at 1683 now I'm at 1851 witch is a hell of a lot closer to where I am supposed to be Now I am going to re run some benchmarks I will update you with the results

6700HQ, AGA owner here, not seeing any kind of bottleneck unless you're talking a heavily CPU limited game like WoW

Any idea about the 6820HK? Just curious if that could handle a 1080ti or not. I actually had a 1080 in my AGA and noticed similar performance to the 1070 that is built into the laptop.

Since AGA is PCI 3.0 X4 at best I wonder is I7 6700HQ capable of pushing those four lanes maxed?

People keep saying this but tests still show that with current cards 4X is not a botleneck for GPU's. You lose only a single a handful of frames.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080_PCI_Express_Scaling/24.html

You lose about 5% with the AGA in use on an externa. monitor but unfortunately more when using the internal monitor. The 6700HQ isnt a bottleneck at all.

The 1070 and 1080 are already very similar in terms of performance, if you use a 1080 external without an external monitor connected you pretty much lose all gains.

Looking on 3dMark, I found a guy with a 13r3 6700HQ and 1080 ti who was putting up similar numbers to my 7700hq/1080ti combo. Mine had slightly better physics scores, but otherwise it was very close. No bottlenecking.
