I have had my m9750 for over a year now and it has operated flawlessly up until last night when I turned it on from Sleep mode. After about 1 minute of normal operation the screen suddenly went completely black. I did a hard reboot and not even the boot screen came up-no video. I removed the battery and held down the power button for about a minute and still no boot screen-nothing.

I am disappointed in the fact that my system has failed after only 14 months of use. I expect much longer life from a notebook than that. The Sony Vaio I am using now is 5 years old and still runs fine. Fortunately I just upgraded to the extended warranty so I will send it in for repair and see what happens, but I no longer feel comfortable with a notebook that may well fail again in a few months after I get it back-I don't care about looks or brand name, just reliabillty.

So I am looking to possibly buy a Sager NP9262. I have done some research on this system and I have found hardly any complaints. And it has at least the equivalent performance as my m9750.

I am not here to plug Sager or to bash Alienware. I still like the m9750 but for my needs, I simply need a reliable computer that will last at least 3 to 4 years with trouble free performance. When I get my AW back from repair I may sell it or keep it around as a backup-haven't decided yet.

    Specs: m9750, T7600 CPU, 7950GTX/SLI, 200GB 7200 rpm HDD

This is one of the risks when you purchase a high end laptop. Clevo/Sagers will do the same thing. My 9750 has been going along all this time, though one of the video cards did die, it was quickly replaced.

If you want reliability, then perhaps the high-end gamer laptops aren't for you.

Gaming laptops may not last as long as standard laptops but no laptop should fail after only 14 months of normal use. That's unacceptable. I don't even use it for gaming that much.

I think there are high end notebooks out there that are also reliable-I don't follow the logic that just because a notebook has high end components in it, it is doomed to have a short lifespan. If it is a heat issue then it means that the notebook has inadequate cooling-something that a well designed system does not have problems with.

I would not say that is true.

I am still using the world's first dual core notebook, as well as the previous world's fastest gaming notebook.

Its over 2.5 years and still kicks some serious butt (outperforming most mid-range gaming system today)... and can still take out mobile Core 2 Extreme CPUs in a raw power battle. :D

    Went over my notebook here:
Two years later... with my D900K

I have been adamant about its care (and help to contribute to this forum by showing how to take care of your gaming notebook).

For those that have followed my advice, they would know that:
"If you take you take care of your notebook, it will take care of you."

... granted that there may be a few models of notebooks that die quicker due to faulty components or thermal design.

If one is careless when using and taking care of their gaming notebook (only use on hard, clean, flat surfaces... always monitor temps.... always clean out the vents and fans regularly... etc..), they is no one else to blame but themselves.

Do you have a warranty on the system?

Yes, Stone it is under warranty and I am sending it in for repair. I have read your posts and that is one reason that I am considering the Sager NP9262 since I am not sure that I won't experience the same fate that you have with your m9750. I don't need the aggravation.

Yea you have to give them a chance to fix your system though before you go off doing anything too drastic.
