So for the past two weeks I've been researching which laptop to buy. I want it to game on, but also do all my work on. And save it for a few years so I have it at college.

The m15x Seems like a good laptop for gaming and pretty cheap, installing my own Ram and using a 8700. All for around $2,000.

However, I really want a customized Laptop, more or less, graphic artistry case colored, like done at smoothcreations on their smoothbooks (which are pretty luring), and am wondering if there are other options for a gaming laptop other than the m15x, for a similar price and ability for customization?

The alienware seems more appealing, for the price and ability of gaming, but i know about all the problems with alienware people have had, and wonder if it's worth it, or to just go find a sager\clevo\smoothbook.

The AW m15x has indeed had problems in the past but a lot of us newer owners have had zero major issues at all. There are still issues present, just not nearly as game breaking as before. I do recommend getting the 8800 as it is just a complete beast at what it does. I'd say buy the alienware for the alienware though. If you intend to just customize it you'll probably want a different laptop. Honestly, I think this machine looks dead sexy already. Long live my m15x!

    ^^what Ennea said
defo go for the 8800 if you can afford it.

a link was posted on here about 4 months ago with a site that does all the customising of the chassis.
someone might know where it is and re post it for you.

I've found sites that you can send in your laptop for customization, but many don't take the alienware chassis.

I'm also debating ordering it now, or waiting 2 months and ordering it then, hoping for a price drop. (and black skullcap)

I think that you will hardly find someone willingly to "customize" the m15x, especially after seeing how "fragile" it looks and the hinges issue.

And, btw, read the "why you shouldn't buy a m15x" thread before buying.

I also second this. The newer m15x's have been shown to be a lot more promising than the earlier batches, but if you want 100% reliability for college, you'll probably want to go with your other options. If you absolutely want the m15x, then just mentally prepare yourself for the things that may happen to it and thoroughly read up on the reviews of it.

I'm not trying to deter you from it (I love my m15x), but I don't want you to have really high expectations for something you've paid 2k+ on and get disappointed later. I mean, it's truly beautiful and it does pack in a punch for what you pay for, but it's not quite perfect yet.
