So while I was playing around with my new alineware m17x-r2 I did a clean install and deleted the Dell Recovery Partition/Image. I also deleted a partition that said (Reserved for OEM). Not sure what the OEM thing was, but I know I kinda wanted the Revocery PArtition to restore it back to factory defaults if I wanted, but i had to get rid of home premium and install win 7 ultimate. Can I still do a Dell Recovery from the disk they sent me? I got a Resource Disk and the other that has Windows 7 Home Premium on it.

    Hi jared good,
Although you can restore your computer with the restore disc and the resource cd combined, you will not be able to recover the restore partition (OEM Partition). The restore partition is created at the factory, and certain things are added such as the Alienware brand in "My Computer" or certain settings. However, all these settings can be replicated with the exception of the decorative branding.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

So how do I get the decorative branding back? I like the alienhead logo showing when I goto my Computer Properties. I also like the custom logon screen and custom boot wallpapers. I know how to get the custom logon and wallpapers, but I dont know how to het the AlienHead logo to display in my COmputer Properties. Im sure I just have to get the image and save it to a certain directory so it will show up. I also want it to display the Alienware phrase like it did. I know there has to be a way to do this, because I used to do it on my Dell Inspiron XPS. I had to edit a .ini file and save it and the dell logo picture to a certain directory.

I saved all of them on my M17xR2 along with the registry settings to restore the branding after a clean install. Digging out the external HDD and I'll post again in a little bit...

    Edit:

Please Note that this is for M17xR1/R2 users only as they are copies of the Alienware Backgrounds, Avatars, and Custom UI Branding that originally came with the system that you are entitled to have a backup of.

Just unzip and for UI and OEM Branding see the READ_ME.TXT file for instructions.

Nice find, it has even more wallpapers than what came with the M17x.

I didn't see it in there. To get it back you need to add these to your Registry:

You might want to change the Phone Number to your actual one. I purchased through Higher Learning an that's the number I call.

And then toss this file into C:\Windows\System32
