they are clocked standard 700/1000 yes, but go to sensors in gpu-z, in normal windows they should be idle and throttled to 150/300. So no change there in the actual settings i guess.
Yup great combo so far, the only thing we want to know now, is 1. are upcomming official cats supported, and 2. is it possible to have these drivers set as a default driver upon making a clean windows 7 install.
And to repeat it again, you will and always had to set (or it was already set in the dell drivers) the workaround to true.

I thought after doing a clean install, you had to reinstall all drivers anyhow with chipset 1st and then video...obviously they wont be on the resource disk but cant you just got to support and install them from there? - isnt that the same as having them as default?
-
Yes stevie, what we want to have is just a vga driver whenever we uninstall or disable the ati drivers. And then the actual driver as a default ati driver, which gives us the base, whenever we want to update. The reason for this is, we cannot allow our system to run on anything earlier than 10.8 (at the moment atleast).
well i don't know if the 6.962 are handled as a default driver aswell when you make a clean install, maybe windows will search for them and install those from the net (well i would anyway install 10.8 first and then look if we can have that as base), or if the cards are not recognized as ati cards, until you actually install an ati driver first time which should give us the base driver, if we roll back and restore windows from time to time.
Anyway until i can install a fresh windows, i have to backup some files, so i might watch some animes while it's copying. Will let you know later, how and what exactly i did upon reinstall. -

Yup that is right Stevie just save them to an external media (HDD, DVD,CD)

You have mail on your previous adress you posted. Please let us know about your findings.

I flash twice when I want to OC the 5870CF three days ago.I flash it in DOS. -
you will see it when you actually flash it, you will have a summary screen afterwards, and it will tell you if it was succesful. and yes once, both cards get flashed during that simple process.

Can I use 10.8 application profiles with the new dell driver?

Is the above the correct 10.8? I had some issues installing the official 10.8 even with workaround = true, so I installed the Dell drivers. Just trying to make sure the above is 10.8. Can I use the 10.8 official application profiles with these drivers? In addition, how to I go about applying aa to SC2 without having to force all 3d apps to do it therefore having to switch it on and off every time I play. -
Yes and yes, and about how something applies with those profiles i don't know either exactly.
-
Hi i use profilezs with last beta dell drivers and it works but i don't know if it's better with or without .
Can you send me the vbios pleaz because i have the same issue on sleep , shutoff -
It should be better, and for today i sent out enough vbios. and in this thread where we should actually talk about issues and such, we haven't done much yet so far. Also i understand you are new here and want to test that goodie, but i don't want to spam this thread too much as i already did probably, maybe we should create our own thread where people can give up a email. Don't know....
-
So if I use 10.8 driver with the new vbios. It will work perfect, yes?
-
thx for answering , i'll wait the release .
-
I downloaded the official ATI 10.8 and for some odd reason it wouldn't install properly. I didn't get any BSOD's, but I just couldn't get the drivers to take - even with following all of those instructions I posted from Ash.
I then downloaded and installed the Dell 8.763 drivers and it worked with flying colors. Ran 3dmark 06 and had no issues. -
Can someone post some game play results with the new driver and/or vbios?
It's all fine and dandy that the computer can go to sleep.
I've read only one post so far from someone who tried to play a game, and apparently it crashed after 10 minutes. -

I am very interested to hear about how others including yourself are finding them so i will watch avidly and drop in the odd one-liner! -
Hey guys i just ran a benchmark for ffxiv with these drivers no vbios yet nobody has sent me one
the score was so low i almost nerd raged 1969 out of 8000 that is weak sauce
-
I just installed the "Dell" 8.7XXX drivers, and flashed the VBIOS, I have to goto work now
, but I will post later today.
-
-
So do I install the Dell video driver or the one off of the ATI site?
-
If you are posting here, you are installing the Dell 8.763 driver.
-
I test MAFIA2 and SC2.perform very strong。 with the new vbios and ATI 10.8.
-
Thank you!
If you have any more information about games please post. Preferably games that had known issues, like BFBC2 and even WoW. -

Thanks. -
anyone tested this driver on the m15x?
-
I will test BFBC2 and crysis now
-
I am more than willing to share feedback. -
I played the Odin mission on High/Medium and saw 50-60 fps the whole time. On High/High the fps was around 20-30 with warnings about lowering the graphics settings.
Compared to the stock drivers, this is MUCH better on High/Medium but slightly worse on High/High.
This is with the NEW drivers and the OLD VBIOS. -
What's your config? I play on ultra / ultra and get 60+fps constantly. Maybe in the 50+ range during heavy heavy traffic but normally never lower than 55-60.

I'd kill to figure out what I'm doing wrong -- this performance is about the same as with my 1 year old MacBook Pro.
I don't know if this is related, but I've also had the screen freeze up, go black and then come back normally three time. Each time I got a notification saying that the video driver had stopped responding and was restarted.
Twice while playing SC2 I've seen red dashed appear on my screen. The screen then blinked and they vanished. -
That's a known crossfire issue with ATi drivers. Nothing Dell can do about that until ATi decides to fix it. I finally got the time to put this new vbios + driver release through some testing. I'm already expecting crash to desktop issues with bad company 2 since it's been plaguing desktop owners for the last few Catalyst releases as well. Games I plan to test today:
1. Mass effect 2.
2. Mafia demo
3. Bad company 2
4. Crysis Warhead
5. Singularity
6. Stalker shadow of chernobyl
7. GTA IV
If I have time I plan to test Alien Swarm, Trine, Dirt 2 as well. If anyone with the new final fantasy game could test the new driver + vbios combo out and report your findings it would be great. -
-
So I am having the same issue as I did with the other Beta drivers, everytime I unplug my M17xR2 to use on battery, then I plug it back in, it freezes, so I restart and I get a BSOD or a freeze. So I have to go to safe mode and uninstall the drivers, then reboot to normal mode, then reinstall the Beta drivers again. Anyone else having this problem?

The new Vbios fixed my problems, thanks Brian! -
clown, would be helpful if you include full system specs including sys bios version and the method you used to install. I'm sure Brian will ask for this. Lets save him the time and be sure to post full specs when reporting issues folks.
-
Yep I actually just encountered that exact same problem.
I took the easy way out though and just chose the "last known configuration that worked" and got back into windows.
I Just have the new Dell drivers installed with no Vbios update.
Cheers.
Oh yeh Thanks Brian. I just received your email with the VBios and details. -
Thank you Brian,
So far this is where I am at;
I uninstalled the two video cards through device manager, then uninstalled all of the ATI software/drivers through control panel, turned off internet. Rebooted, ran Driversweeper, rebooted, installed the new Dell "beta" 8.7 Driver, rebooted, flashed to the new VBIOS.
I did not have time to test too much, I had to goto work. I checked the sleep/hibrnated and it works just fine so far. I ran SC2, the flickering is gonebut it seems kinda slow on the FPS, kinda laggy playing single player easy map. I installed the 10.8 apps profile, maybe that will help. I will report more later.
SPECS
"BIOS A07, Core i7 720, 4gb DDR3 1333Mhz Ram, Crossfire Dual 5870s "new" Vbios using the latest Dell 8.7 ATI driver." -
I just noticed that when I unplug the system it tried to install some intel gfx driver. Not sure what that is all about. I then plugged the ac adapter back in and it completely froze the system so I had to do a hard reboot. Cheers.
I'm still messing around and testing the new dell ATi driver before I decide if I will flash to the newer VBios.
Just wondering, so does the new Vbios fix the unplugging and plugging back in AC adapter hanging problem? -
Brian,
Did engineering incorporate the profiles into this beta release or do we still need the external application profiles? I know you mentioned that Dell intends to incorporate them into the driver itself but if that hasn't been done with the beta, then maybe you or batboy could link to the profiles in the first/second post? -

hello all,
i´m new to this forum. i owned today a M17X R2 with i7 820qm and 2x 4870 crossfire. are there any problem knowned with the new dell driver? or should i try the new ati drivers? thx -
With Crossfire 4870, either should work fine. -
-
Thanks for the update Brian. I will update my post with this information. Folks, its your call.

That's right, only the new vbios takes care of that issue if you have it. I've confirmed that sleep works as well as working off battery. So far the vbios is holding up well but I plan to put it through it's paces today.
-
I seem to be having the sleep problem as well. Installed the new bios (A07) then installed the new beta video drivers. Previously hadn't had any problems with sleep/hibernate. I can't seem to PM erawneila (Brian) or anyone else (most likely because i'm new) about the vbios.
How can i get ahold of this?
