You're a good candidate for the new vbios then which should eliminate your sleep/hibernate/booting on battery issues:

I just had my M17x R1 replaced with a M17x R2 with 5780s. I have used the new VBIOS and the new drivers. The only game I play so far is BFBC2. Looks and plays great for me. no distortion, wavy lines or flickering that I an see after 3 hours of game play...

    HI guys

First time on here, I've tried the new Dell8.763 driver and though fps are awesome I get a blank screen when coming back from sleep. Coudl someone forward me the new vbios.

gone from 99fps in counter-strike source stress test to 299fps. So if i can get the sleep issue sorted I'd be a happy customer. :)

Hey peeps was just wondering if anyone has tested running games or other things on an external screen via HDMI, displayport or VGA. Is it functioning properly on the new drivers and new Vbios?

    Cheers.

Looks great! Doing it now. Before it looked awful but I just changed the monitor's "color pixel format" from the first option to the last one and now it looks great!

So what i can say is that i think the new dell driver needs more work.. I know the issue about sleep and so on but its just sitting on my desk so thats ok for now . But it lowers the fps in almost all the games i tested so am i doing something wrong here. When i say lowers i mean Bad company 2 im at around 25-40 fps and AA still dont work. Modern warfare 2 30-80 fps. Alien vs predator CF and AA still dont. NFS shift 20-60 fps. Resident evil 5 from 60+(dells first ones) fps to 40-60 fps. Have anybody managed to get AA to work at all in games like bad company 2 and alien vs.... Also i noticed that suddenly i couldnt get cf to work so i had to reinstall the driver and that fixed it.. Hmm... Think im going to give Atis own one shot before im rolling back to dells first ones

I broke down and installed the beta vbios. Fortunately the install went without incident.

Must say, its made a world of difference. The 8.763 + vbios is what the M17x R2 crossfire should have been out of the box.

I tried COD:MW2, everything at highest settings, and was thrown off silky smooth the framerates were.

Fallout 3, again everything max, even outdoors with all of DC ruins visible, not even a stutter.

Thanks Brian and his team! :D

I'm going to hold off restarting for the time being just to make sure.

Don't restart. Try it again until it shows you what Grimfan images shows on page 4 of this thread. Once it is successful, you will be prompted to restart the computer.

It was only successful for me on the 3rd attempt. So if it fails in the second, try again.

Ah okay thanks for the heads up. I was trying to search for that pic again. Thanks a lot. I flashed it again and it seems to have worked now. Tried it a 3rd time and it said both were already done so it seems I'm all good now. Gonna restart now. Fingers crossed eheheheh. Cheers.

PS i haven't restarted yet. Still unsure.

Okay, so I checked GPU-z again and it showed that the 1st card was on the 020 new vbios but the 2nd card was still on the old 019 vbios????

I could have swore that both were on the new bios when i checked just before?? Hmmmsss......
I tried to flash again running as admin and it gave me a msg saying both were already flashed.

Will it both change after i restart? I just want to make double triple sure before i brick my 2 day old system LOL. Cheers.

well if you can't flash it anymore and you had the previous pic looked at of me, that it told you new vbios was written and verified and if it asked you upon succesful flash to reboot (i think you didn't accepted that yet, right?), there is not much more then just follow the instructions given so far and reboot.

If it fails, i hope you can atleast get back here with another computer and let us know :D It may be possible GPU-Z can't read that yet properly, check again after reboot if it noticed it.

It should be fine. You said GPU-Z didn't see the new vbios on the second card. Important is that the first has been flashed correctly, or you won't even see a Bios Starting Screen.

    Ah trues i see.

On the R1 atm. R2 is blank black screening me.

Okay so I hit restart and it said it was shutting down and all the usual stuff but now the screen is just fully black and seems to be stuck or not moving. It doesn't look like it finished shutting down properly. Is it still flashing the bios or something?
Not sure if I should hold the Alien head and shut it off and power on again. Any ideas? Cheers.

If the screen is black there is not much else you can do but manually power it down since there is no turning back at this point ..

Did you already hard boot? It is known for the drivers to not shutdown correctly without the new vbios (You should have choosen the option Reboot anyway, not shutdown). It's a windows issue, so should have no influence on the flashing process, as that should have been done already. Try restarting the laptop and let us know if it reboots then.

It is recommended to update BIOS to A07 on M17x-R2 and installing the latest Beta drivers from dell, and then you can flash VBIOS.

So far shutdown is working fine now no blank black screen hangs.

Unplugged and plugged back in also working fine. No more hangs and black blank screens.

Screen turning off now also works fine again. No more blank black screens; then having to hard reboot. That was not a problem with the stock drivers before.

Ran FIFA10 and it runs okay. I must say it ran better on the stock drivers. No worries its still playable. Awaiting FIFA 11. That's where the true testing will begin eheheh.

Fans are still spinning below 2000rpm atm at a nice quiet low noise setting. I'm sure they will pump right back up and the plane will be taking off when I load something more taxing on the system.

    So far so good. Awesomes.
    Cheers.

Just tested Mafia 2 and the game looks great on 1920x1200 resolution using the high profile setting ingame, played about half an hour so far.

Upon returning to windows, the display/desktop was kinda dimmed in brightness, but the cursor was still normal. Pressed Control+ALT+Delete, and it was already fixed on the message screen, where i chosed task manager, and it was back to normal again on getting back to the desktop. Weird :D
(I think you have to test it out, to know what i mean.)

Tested some Starcraft 2 aswell, everything set on Ultra, game runs great aswell.

Not a single BSOD or any other issue so far within windows.

Can you run the Mafia 2 benchmark on maxed out settings. I'm going to do the same now and see what we get ey?
I think last time I ran the benchmark i scored an AVG fps of 9fps LOL.

PS wheres the option to enable crossfire image notification or something is running when I'm in game?

    Here's my run:

I really have no clue where this option is in CCC, but i can enable it in RadeonPro under Global Settings /Advanced. Save Settings.

So I've figured out that my problems are related to the CrossfireX profiles like Brian said.

So far I get the best performance without them installed. For now I'm just going to stick to Vbios update and Dell AMD Beta drivers. 8.763

    I maxed out everything LOL.

Although I did get a score similar to yours maxed out settings when my system was stock a couple days ago. Not to sure whats up with the benchmark in mafia 2 now though LOL. I still get around 60fps when playing the game so thats fine I'm not to fussed about the benchmark result. Funny thing is on the R1 the game runs fine too 60fps but it scores the same in the benchmark LOL an E ranking eheheheh. It too ran the benchmark fine a few days ago.

Just tried bad company 2 and avg 40fps in FRAPs. I'm still thinking that is quite low although I have maxed out every setting. 8X and 16X antialiasing and stuff.

Might be because AA was not applicated. The system will stagger if you have both AA and AF to 16x, same happens to SC2. You might have to reduce other options to enjoy better AA and AF, just a thought, i have no problem with the current image quality and performance i get served. Also i don't know if it's meant to be all maxed out and still run great... Anyone knows?

Ah true trues I see. I normally set AA stuff to the lowest setting or even off on the R1 but thought I'd see how this all power machine ran eheheheh. Yeh no complaints here on the image quality. I can't really tell Nvidia GFX apart from ATIs. Looks great on both except much better on the R2 now because of the RGB LED screen!!!

Yeah, but the game is obviously optimized for Nvidia and Physx, and i'm sure the benchmark profits from there much more.

Anyway, just did a rerun of the mafia benchmark and this time i choosed HIGH profil, and enabled the only setting which was not on yet, AA.

Slightly lower /but with Crossfire Logo *gg*:

Edit: Gonna compare this to the Dell Beta drivers now :D

Oh ehehehe this should be interesting to see. Yeh I must say that my R1 is still keeping pace quite well with this R2 atm. Its surely no slouch. It actually runs FIFA10 better. Not sure if thats the Nvidia Drivers or not. Your right too Mafia 2 is optimized better for Nvidia specs.

Well it's not too far off i think, you have a quad aswell on your r1, same ram, also a dual card setup, and the game says in big fat letters, the way it's meant to be along a nice tagged ATI CrossfireX LOGO in the upper right:

That doesn't look well somehow :D

Imagine this with the FFXIV Benchmark, too bad CrossFire is not applicable, it would be tagged right above the NVIDIA Logo LOL:

I got my computer about a week ago and i was looking for updated drivers b/c every other system i have gotten brand new always needs updates. I updated the bios to the most current one off the dell website. A07, dated 8 Aug 10. Im about to intall the new Vbios and doubled checked through windows control panel system info, and it shows my bios version as "Alienware X-30m (or something like that) dated 29 july 2010". Im at work so i cant look it up off the bios boot up right now. However, Dxdiag does show A07 for a bios version. Which one is correct? why does Windows system info not match dxdiag? I just want to be sure i have A07 installed and its reconized properly. Im new to Alienware and ATI...ive been a nvidia guy all my life. Dont hate me lol :)
