After checking their website today, i saw they don't offer the 4870's for the new M17x laptop like Dell USA does, but the 4850 instead:

Single 1 GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M [Inbegrepen in prijs]
    Single 1 GB ATI® GDDR5 Mobility™ Radeon™ HD 4850 [meerprijs € 25,00 of € 2/maand1]
    SLI™ Dual 1 GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M [meerprijs € 370,00 of € 18/maand1]
    CrossFire™ Dual 1 GB ATI® GDDR5 Mobility™ Radeon™ HD 4850 [meerprijs € 415,00 of € 21/maand1]
    SLI™ Dual 1 GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M [meerprijs € 740,00 of € 36/maand1]

Hmm...smells fishy to me...why no 4870's? And how come now the 4850's are "not available" if you are an M17 customer.

Because the 4850/4870s that the M17x uses are MXM 3.0 cards whereas the cards that the M17 uses are MXM 2.1. ;)

That's interesting though that they only offer 4850s...and at much cheaper than the 280Ms? Especially at GDDDR5 they seem like great value seeming as it's 100$ more than 280Ms for 4870s in the US if I remember rightly.

These are the GDDR5 versions, so isn't it basically the same thing as the 4870s? They'd have to be MXM 3.0b to fix the M17x, so they're not MXM 2.1's like the M17 had. If they're cheaper then the 280's that leads me to believe the clocks are lower then the 4870's for the US/UK.

It'd not on the UK site but it is on the German site. Makes me think it's a typo.

    You are right mandrake.

The UK site does show 4870...probably a typo then.

What's really interesting is that the 4870's even on the UK site are cheaper then the 280s, whereas in the US, the 280s are cheaper then the 4870s...

Yes, but the whole system is overpriced in the first place in the UK. Trust me, you guys are better off whatever you go for.

On the UK site, one 4870 is now the same price as the GTX260M (+£0).

But Crossfire is £45 more than SLI 260s.

    Weird.

Haha don't start that...i think every single european would love to be able to buy AW laptops for US prices.

If you convert what we pay, it's nearly doube of what you guys pay.

Tell me about it, still I think 4850s are typos (I can demand GDDR5), and with the faster memory guaranteed, so I think its just some misread the names, so I think its a case of they've done more of a $ to £ conversion than normal, and 4870 crossfire is just exceptionally well priced til they notice.
That said, someone check the US/EU 4870 clock speeds as soon as they can!!!!!!!!!! (!!!!! for more emphasis)

So, despite the fact the dual 4870 ATI's will out perform the dual SLI 280s, because NVIDIA is their signature brand and it's the more expensive option that's why that option is highlighted as the 'best' choice still?

And does it seem likely the 4870s will soon disappear from the UK site like the 4850s did with the M17, before that was shortly removed itself, with no warning before christmas because of demand?

Dell Norway offers the m17x with ATI 4870 at least.

As others have mentioned though, the 4870 runs cheaper than the 280M card, as opposed to US site which lists the 4870 at higher cost than 280M.

Also, I compared the prices for the exact same build on norwegian site and the US site, and I can get the laptop for half price in the US compared to the price it runs for in Norway.

50.000NOK for norwegian order vs. 25.000NOK for US order.

With todays currency rates, that would equal 8930$ in norway vs. 4400$ in the US.

    Daylight robbery.

In fact, I could probably fly to New York, buy the laptop, and fly back to Norway the same day, and still get it cheaper than the Euro/Norwegian prices for the m17x.

    Makes you wonder right?

With how the 4870 situation in America is going, Im forced to conclude they're not a huge amount better thier anymore. I agree on AW EU though.
