I am looking into getting an Alienware M15x or M17x. Are those on the outlet the new versions....I keep seeing R1 and R2 and its confusing? And are Certified Refurbished Dell/Alienware Laptops reliable and not going to be cosmetically destroyed?

R2 is the latest version of the M17x using I Core processors

usually these are units that have been returned to dell for various reasons.

It can be hit and miss as far as cosmetics go.

But if your not happy with it, you can usually return it - double check

Most of the outlet ones are practically brand new. Aside from maybe the nameplate, a bit of searching will get you a nice config at great prices.

I say if you found one that you like, go for it. Worst case scenario, if its defective you can get a replacement from Alienware but be prepared to fight!

And prepare to wait for a long time in case you should be so unlucky to end up with a lemon

However, the R2 system(i5 and i7 CPUs) is pretty stable and reliable :)

I agree. the brand new ones that were returned within the 21 day period are the ones that are resold as refurbs most of the time, so I wouldn't be worried too much about cosmetics since normally they just part those out.
