Ok now here is what dell did they replaced the GPU and did not replace the bad fan
    the GPU went bad again
looking for help if anyone things that perhaps it was the graphics card that was bad that i got of if the fan could have caused the card to go bad
or do you think something if wrong with the system board that could have caused it to go bad

im just thinking of calling dell and telling them since the system is under 30 days old
i want them to just replace the system with a new one
will this status take for ever ?
do you guys thinks im doing it the good smart way ?

If you are still in the return period and are unhappy with the system you received, then do not delay and call Dell ASAP. If you are ok with a replacement, then ask them to re-order the unit. If they agree and once it arrives, you will be instructed to ship the current unit back to Dell.

Bottom line here - do not delay. Make that call now before the return period expires.

The two GPUs in the M17x will give you far more gaming power than the i7 processor in the M15x. The vast majority of games prefer GPU power to CPU power.

Just to show it-my M17 ramps up the CPU fan even under light CPU load, but when playing Lord of the Rings Online which is possibly the best looking MMORPG ever made, the CPU fan stays silent.

Of course some games will benefit from the i7. If you tell us what games you play then we can advise you.

What temperatures monitoring software do you use?
I suggest HWMonitor or Everest Ultimate. Keep an eye (always) on your temps as a malfunctioning fan could be a culprit of the GPU failure. If your GPU temps rise above 80-85c you should stop gaming and check the issue (clean the vents from dust, lower the room temps, buy a cooler pad etc)

if gaming is your concern do not hesitate to get the M17x and the qx9300 @ 3.0 ghz is FASTER then a i7 920xm

    ;)

now you have the facts, your M15x has a slower CPU and GPU :)

No LED backlit screen though :(

But also no USB problems or weird throttling, both of which Dell will address sooner or later :-/

From what I've read, the M17x has a pretty bad display. Anyone want to confirm or deny this with numbers? For example, how many nits is it, whats the contrast ratio and who makes it? If the screen sucks on a laptop, I don't care how powerful it is, its not worth buying. I learned the hard way by using an Asus...never again. Plus I think zfactor or someone that knows a Dell engineer claimed the 5800 series wouldn't be compatible w/the M17x.

it will be compatible if dell or some one else just put in the PCIe code into the bios

Also yes the M17x Screen suck very badly compared to the M15x. I have them side by side ;)

I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I was on the verge of ordering an M17x for myself. Oh well.

For me that's not an issue, since when I'm gaming on it (and probably over half the time) I'm on an external (Dell!, LED backlit) display...

But LED backlighting is an absolute requirement for me. I'm not crazy about hauling around glass tubes filled with mercury, among other things  (Plus coworkers CCFL notebooks look ultra dim after a year, and mine I still have to keep turned below 50%...awesome! :D )

EDIT: So anyway, yeah, I might just go with a high end config of this...if not for the screen. Dang it, I wish Asus still had some high end Core 2 quad/Geforce 260/280 systems around. SOOOOOOO glad I checked these forums before buying anything, since the two systems I gravitated towards are both ultra iffy :(

It's not horrible but I can EASILY tell which one is better

Compared to the lg ccfl in the m17 and the M15x ... Well it just dissapoints
