This has probably been asked before, but here goes. I bought a refurbished M18x on E-bay. I did not save or back-up anything(My mistake!) and reinstalled the OS from the Dell DVD, installed all drivers, laptop is running perfect, but I cannot download any software from Dell. Everytime I try to register the laptop in My Account at Dell site, it just runs and runs, never going forward to register the laptop to go into the download portion. Have any of you had this problem? If so, how do you overcome this? Is it because this is a refurbished unit or what? If someone has an answer, I would appreciate some enlightenment.![]()

I'm not sure here, so I'll say that first. But you should not have to register to download drivers. I think you are in another section. I tried that section too, but it never let me progress either. Try instead going to Dell.com and clicking on Drivers and Downloads near the bottom of the page. I suspect if you navigate from there you'll be fine for drivers and the like.
That said, the default software for the webcam is Creative's "Live! Central" on my system. So if you have no copy of the original software (which I would be very suspect of), you might try Creative's site. Maybe even search for drivers using Windows? -
you do not need a service tag or need to register with Dell to access the drivers for your system. simply goto support.dell.com and select Drivers ----> model. when downloading, use the download via web option and not the dell download manager. You'll probably need to clear your support.dell.com and dell.com browser cookies before using the download via web option.
****Regarding WebCam****
Frequently we have folks ask where the webcam driver is so they can download it. The webcam does not require a device driver. It uses the microsoft driver. For the webcam software which came pre-installed with your system, see below - -
Log in over @ https://smartsource.dell.com (for this, you will need to create a dell.com account and will also need to provide your service tag) grab any apps which came bundled with your system that were not included on the Resource DVD. The Webcam application is one of them. NOTE: If you are stuck in a loop trying to setup your dell.com account to log in at smartsource, contact support and they should be able to assist you.

**Very important, if you have not already done so - be sure to use the AlienRespawn app to create your recovery media (USB flash drive or Optical Media). This is very important if you want to preserve the ability to restore back to the original 'out of box' configuration. You can read more about it here:

Enjoy your system and welcome to the NBR Alienware forum.

Thanks for all the input. I contacted Dell Support and they are sending me the Resource and Web Cam Central Discs. Rep was very helpful.
Again thanks for the help, this is an excellent, well run info forum, I have and I will utilize totally!
THANK YOU!! -
webcam central is not a driver. its more less a webcam access tool to configure settings and take pictures and video. Something I too am looking for.
