I'm considering buying the new M17x, but with my configuration I can't afford to buy the Complete Care warranty with it at this time, now I've been told by a few people here at NBR that it is possible to buy the standard warranty at purchase and then later on in 6 months or even near the end of the warranty to upgrade it to Complete Care and extend it for a year or two as well.

I just spoke with a sales rep and he told me I can upgrade but I must buy Complete Care warranty first to be able to upgrade to that, and that I can not buy standard warranty and upgrade to Complete Care.

Is what I've been hearing here at NBR true, that I can upgrade standard warranty to Complete Care at any time? or was the rep correct with what he said?

Keep in mind I live in Canada and things might be different here, so if anyone who has bought a Dell laptop from Canada can confirm or deny this it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

That is not true what the rep told you.

You will be able to extend and upgrade your warranty without cc first (I have done this on every Dell laptop I have owned).

I always get the base 1 year warranty at first. After I decide I like the system and am keeping it, then I upgrade the warranty later towards the end of the original.

Yeah I live in Canada and the guy said that I need a Complete Care warranty right off the bat in order to upgrade, they said I can't upgrade from standard to Complete Care. Either he was wrong and we can here in Canada or he is right and Canada is like Brazil in that regard.

That's why I was hoping a Canadian with some experience in this area could shed some light.

Don't risk it and figure out what you have to do to buy CC when you order the laptop.

When it comes down to it you're not going to be upgrading your warranty through NBR you're going to be upgrading it through a Dell sales rep.

That's why I'm here at NBR to get the information I need, if by some odd reason I can not confirm this, I will just lower my configuration and include the CC warranty at purchase, I'm definitely not taking any chances if I can't find out for sure. The good thing about NBR is it's great knowledge base, I'm hoping it'll come through for me in this particular situation before my purchase deadline.

Hi Crylo, I was able to confirm that you are able to order your system with the standard warranty and upgrade it later on; it was noted that incentive for getting the Complete Care now, would be a better price of course, you can add that later on no problems, the cost may be more.

They also recommended that you contact the Dell Canada branch for available promos for the M17x at 1-800-WWW-DELL.

    Have a nice day!

Nice to see the Dell reps on NBR posting again. Any chance you could fill us in on what's going on with Dell Europe and the M17x?

yeah I only got a 1 year on my aw m15x and recently updated to 2 more years turned out to be a fair amount cheaper that way to. Complete care was great when I had it on my laptops several times my machines were overhauled for soda spills etc (damn kids)
